Journal of CatalysisRoy, Sounak; van Vegten, Niels; Baiker, Alfons (2010)One weight percentage of Pt/MgAl2O4, without any additional classical storage component (Ba or K), was synthesized by single-step flame spray pyrolysis. The catalyst consisting of nano-sized Pt dispersed on MgAl2O4 spinel showed superior dynamic performance in NOx storage-reduction at short regeneration times (<30 s) compared to a standard 1%Pt–20%Ba/Al2O3 reference catalyst. The better NSR performance at short regeneration times of Pt/MgAl2O4 is limited to the use of hydrogen and H2–CO mixtures as reductants, whereas with other reductants, CO or C3H6, the NSR performance was similar for both catalysts. The efficiency of the reduction agents decreased in the order H2 > H2 + CO > CO > C3H6. XRD and time-resolved in-situ DRIFT investigations indicate that bulk nitrate species are formed on Pt–Ba/Al2O3, whereas on the spinel-based Pt/MgAl2O4 catalyst predominantly surface species were formed. The superior dynamic performance of the spinel-based Pt/MgAl2O4 is attributed to the different adsorbed NOx species and their different stability under regeneration conditions. Pt/MgAl2O4 also showed higher thermal stability up to 800 °C and lower stability of sulfur-containing species. - N2O decomposition over iron-containing zeolites prepared by different methodsItem type: Journal Article

Journal of CatalysisBüchel, Robert; Strobel, Reto; Krumeich, Frank; et al. (2009)Catalysts for NOx storage–reduction (NSR) were made selectively with Pt on either the Al- or the Ba-components without altering significantly the Al2O3 or BaCO3 crystal sizes, Al/Ba weight ratio, specific surface area, porosity, and Pt dispersion using a two-nozzle flame spray pyrolysis (FSP) unit. The NOx storage performance at 300 °C was best for Pt located near Al2O3 as it facilitates the oxidation of NO to NO2 during the fuel lean period but the reduction rate during the subsequent short fuel rich period was much slower resulting in incomplete regeneration. This contributed to a gradual decrease of the NOx conversion at increasing cycling. In contrast, Pt on BaCO3 resulted in an initially lower NOx storage rate but during ten storage–reduction cycles a stable NOx conversion of about 50% was reached. When using NO2 instead of NO or higher NOx oxidation-reduction temperatures (e.g. 350 °C) the Pt location did not affect the NSR performance of the Pt/Ba/Al2O3 catalysts. - Reactions of mixed dialkyl- and trialkylamines over Pd/gamma-Al2O3Item type: Journal Article
