    We offer a highest bandwidth, low-footprint, scalable and low-cost solution for sub-THz wireless communication links. We employ a plasmonic-graphene approach. The solution is tested for transmission of 120 Gbit/s at a carrier-frequency of 285 GHz.

    We demonstrate a new concept in an electro-optical memristor where a global light stimulus induces non-volatile conductance changes. The optical signal acts as a third, independent stimulation channel, similar to neuromodulators in three-factor learning rules.

    Over a 53km turbulent free-space optical link we have shown data transmission up to 424Gbit/s. These results were enabled by plasmonic modulators offering bandwidths above 100GHz and were extended up to 774Gbit/s in fiber experiments.

    The Pockels coefficients in thin-film barium titanate (BTO) and lithium niobate (LN) have been measured for modulating frequencies up to 300 GHz. BTO’s effective nonlinearity is ~10 times larger than LN’s with a small frequency dependence

    The linear electro-optic coefficient of lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) thin films has been characterized over a broad range of modulation frequencies from 50 MHz to 270 GHz. A coefficient of 25-30 pm/V was found.

    We present a coupler from silicon photonic to vertical plasmonic metal-insulator-metal waveguides with a measured efficiency of -1.4 dB at 1550 nm, and an optical bandwidth of more than 100 nm.

    We operated a microwave frequency fiber interferometer in a telecommunication cable in the Ionian Sea, Greece, for two months. The capability of detecting undersea micro earthquakes (magnitude~1.5), tides and ocean waves is reported.

    We report 60 GHz/Wm photon pair generation via type-0 spontaneous parametric down-conversion at 1550 nm from individual free-standing GaAs nanowires with sub-450 nm diameter and lengths up to 5 μm.
