Optical Materials ExpressZilberberg, Oded (2021)Topological phases of matter have sparked an immense amount of activity in recent decades. Topological materials are classified by topological invariants that act as a non-local order parameter for any symmetry and condition. As a result, they exhibit quantized bulk and boundary observable phenomena, motivating various applications that are robust to local disorder and imperfections. In this review, we explore such a topological classification for quasiperiodic systems, and detail recent experimental activity using photonic metamaterials. - Photoinduced surface patterning of azobenzene-containing supramolecular dendrons, dendrimers and dendronized polymersItem type: Journal Article

Optical Materials ExpressThambidurai, Mariyappan; Jang, Youngjin; Shapiro, Arthur; et al. (2017)The strong quantum confinement effect in lead selenide (PbSe) colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) allows to tune the bandgap of the material, covering a large spectral range from mid- to near infrared (NIR). Together with the advantages of low-cost solution processability, flexibility and easy scale-up production in comparison to conventional semiconductors especially in the mid- to near infrared range, PbSe CQDs have been a promising material for infrared optoelectronic applications. In this study, we synthesized monodisperse and high purity PbSe CQDs and then demonstrated the photodetectors working at different wavelengths up to 2.8 µm. Our high quality PbSe CQDs show clear multiple excitonic absorption peaks. PbSe CQD films of different thicknesses were deposited on interdigitated platinum electrodes by a simple drop casting technique to make the infrared photodetectors. At room temperature, the high performances of our PbSe CQD photodetectors were achieved with maximum responsivity, detectivity and external quantum efficiency of 0.96 A/W, 8.13 × 109 Jones and 78% at 5V bias. Furthermore, a series of infrared LEDs with a broad wavelength range from 1.5 μm to 3.4 μm was utilized to demonstrate the performance of our fabricated photodetectors with various PbSe CQD film thicknesses. © 2017 Optical Society of America - Nanothermoforming of hierarchical optical components utilizing shape memory polymers as active moldsItem type: Journal Article
Optical Materials ExpressSchneider, Norbert; Zeiger, Claudia; Kolew, Alexander; et al. (2014) - Intrinsic and photo-induced properties of high refractive index azobenzene based thin films [Invited]Item type: Journal Article
Optical Materials ExpressMavrona, Eleni; Mailis S.; Podoliak, Nina (2018)We explore the limits of the photosensitive response of thin, 15 to 35 nm, films of complex azobenzene dyes. They show high refractive index, reaching 1.8, and significant photo-induced birefringence. We have successfully recorded strong, birefringent phase gratings with visible light and used the diffraction efficiency measurements to monitor their temporal evolution. The photo-induced gratings in such thin films were found not to be associated with any periodic surface relief, a typical feature in thicker azobenzene layers. - Improved photoluminescence and afterglow of CaTiO3:Pr3+ by ammonia treatmentItem type: Journal Article
