AIP Conference Proceedings ~ ICNAAM 2010: International Conference of Numerical Analysis and Applied Mathematics 2010Ramaswamy, Rajesh; Sbalzarini, Ivo F. (2010)We review the class of partial‐propensity exact stochastic simulation algorithms (SSA) for chemical reaction networks. We show which modules partial‐propensity SSAs are composed of and how partial‐propensity variants of known SSAs can be constructed by adjusting the sampling strategy used. We demonstrate this on the example of two instances, namely the partial‐propensity variant of Gillespie’s original direct method and that of the SSA with composition‐rejection sampling (SSA‐CR). Partial‐propensity methods may outperform the corresponding classical SSA, particularly on strongly coupled reaction networks. Changing the different modules of partial‐propensity SSAs provides flexibility in tuning them to perform particularly well on certain classes of reaction networks. The framework presented here defines the design space of such adaptations. - Time-averaged acoustic forces acting on a rigid sphere within a wide range of radii in an axisymmetric levitatorItem type: Conference Paper

AIP Conference Proceedings ~ Physics of Semiconductors: 28th International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors - ICPS 2006Graf, Davy; Ihn, Thomas Markus; Ensslin, Klaus; et al. (2007)We report the fabrication and measurement of a finite‐periode lateral superlattice within a Coulomb blockaded island, thereby creating a quantum dot with a periodic internal substructure. The potential modulation introduces an additional length scale to the quantum dot state, which can be probed with a perpendicular magnetic field. - Nucleation and Impact Modification of Polypropylene Laser Sintered PartsItem type: Conference Paper

AIP Conference Proceedings ~ Physics of Semiconductors: 27th International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors - ICPS-27Grbić, Boris; Ellenberger, Christoph; Ihn, Thomas Markus; et al. (2005)Carbon doped p‐type AlGaAs heterostructures are investigated by low‐temperature magnetotransport measurements. High quality of such two dimensional hole gases is demonstrated by observing sharp integer plateaus in Hall resistance as well as features of fractional quantum Hall effect at filling factors 4/3 and 5/3. The observed beating pattern of low‐field Shubnikov‐de Haas oscillations represents clear evidence for the existence of the two spin‐split subbands which arise from strong spin‐orbit coupling in hole systems. - Inter-comparison of the phase partitioning of cloud water among global climate modelsItem type: Conference Paper
