Abstract
Waves behind chute piers generate shock waves which can lead to overtopping in surface spillways, and surging in tunnel spillways. The hydraulic features of pier waves are determined in sloping chutes, and a simple method of reduction is proposed. The results are presented in a generalized form which can be used directly in applications.
