Abstract
The article questions the necessity of information literacy, since professional and academic success is often achieved without efficient use of information. Nevertheless, it is emphasized that information literacy can lead to more effective work by using the right tool for the task at hand. The text sheds light on the concept of information literacy, describes its importance for researchers, and the role of academic libraries in teaching it. It is argued that libraries must adapt to new information sources and technologies to support researchers. Practical examples, i.e., the work at ETH Zurich, illustrate successful approaches to promoting information literacy.
