Abstract

In modern medium voltage power electronic systems, the need for high bandwidth data transmission, often through optical fibers is growing. In the most common solution multiple fibers are required in order to transmit multiple signals, which increases the overall system cost and its complexity. In this paper, a highspeed (up to 200Mbps) optical link is introduced which enables the transmission of multiple data signals and their respective clock through a single fiber. The method is based on a light intensity modulation technique and transmits a multi-level signal with a single fiber, resulting in a high bandwidth isolated communication link.
