Abstract

Advantages of different transport modes are combined during the planning phase by proposing intermodal offers. Based on their personal cost-benefit optimization, travelling persons choose a combination of different transport modes on their trips. Surveys on different kind of P+R and B+R stations are used to describe and quantify the effects and correlations between intermodal passenger transport, decision behaviour and users structure. Rearrangement of individual traffic to public transport or non-motorised traffic will be calculated for different types of locations. An estimation of the mid- and long-term potential of P+R and B+R in Switzerland based on correlation-effects, success factors and predicted users will be accomplished. Several scenarios will be developed and illustrated within this process and are used to predict the future rearrangement potential and its consequences. Based on the study insights, recommendations for strategies and implications of planning for further development of intermodal mobility will be proposed
