Abstract
Although the Bouwcentrum was strongly rooted in the city of Rotterdam, it also entertained relations with organizations beyond The Netherlands, from the United Nations to the Union internationale des architectes (UIA), and from the Conseil international du bâtiment (CIB) to the Club of Rome. This paper presents an overview of these relations, positioning them in the context of the then-emerging field of “building research and documentation,” which consolidated interwar explorations into the control of material performances, and expanded them in line with the demands of postwar reconstruction in Europe and development in the Global South.
