Abstract
Cities are relatively autonomous in the Swiss federal system. Nevertheless, local conditions and processes are embedded in federal structures. Therefore, these city profiles begin with a brief discussion of the political, legal, and planning contexts at the national level, as well as an overview of urbanization trends and housing policies.
