Abstract

In the endeavour to reduce the negative environmental impact of the construction industry, the choice of structurally efficient floor slab systems is a key measure. However, numerous requirements and per formances beyond the environmental impact have to be considered when choosing a structural system. This study presents an approach to assess the correlations of requirements and performance metrics for concrete floor slabs based on the results of a numerical data generation pipeline. A case study shows that non-structural requirements such as footfall sound insulation can significantly increase cost and global warming potential (GWP) or even preclude the application of certain resource-efficient structural systems.
