Abstract
This dataset is part of the documentation of a four-year interdisciplinary project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation SNF (2015-2019, project number SNF- CR21I1159271), focusing on the historical-critical revision of the Swiss earthquake catalogue for the period 1880-1963, a period of pre- and early instrumental scientific earthquake observation. The aim of the project was the interdisciplinary collection, documentation and analysis of a diverse and heterogenic dataset including both macroseismic as well as historical instrumental recordings. Instrumental recordings include the original historical seismograms and reading tables of wave arrivals and amplitudes since the establishment of the mechanical seismograph network in Switzerland in 1911.
The present data set is an excerpt from the working database developed in this project and includes the *instrumental* data documented in the Annual Reports of the Swiss Seismological Service that were collected and digitized by us for corresponding period. It also contains the relevant feature and lookup tables.
Namely it contains
- the instrument constants or configurations necessary for the interpretation of seismograms and readings
- the readings of earthquake components recorded in the annual reports of the Swiss Seismological Service (complete for all earthquakes located at most 500 km from a Swiss station)
