Machine Learning approach to Traffic Simulation
(2025)In this master's thesis we explore various Machine Learning approach to Traffic Simulation. The goal was to integrate GNNs into SuMO (Simulation of Urban MObility), a German traffic simulation app and predict flows from given OD matrices and visa-a-versa i.e. the inverse problem. Novel concepts like traffic flux and traffic flow was introduced followed by intricate neural network architectures utilized to make predictions.Master Thesis -
Machine-Learning-Based Natural Hazard Risk Modeling for Hail Damage in Zurich
(2025)This thesis investigates the prediction of hail damage to buildings in the Canton of Zurich using machine learning methods, specifically Random Forest regression models. Severe hailstorms can cause significant financial losses, as shown by the hailstorm on June 28, 2021, that resulted in 493 million Swiss francs in damages across four Swiss cantons. Traditional modeling approaches like CLIMADA, which rely on an impact function that is ...Master Thesis -

Planar Affine Rectification from Change of Scale and Orientation
(2025)A method is proposed for the affine rectification of an image plane using knowledge about the transformation of local scales and orientations when subjected to projective distortion. We derive a novel linear constraint that connects pairs of points linked to localized orientations to the parameters of a projective transformation. This constraint is applied in conjunction with an established linear constraint that links points to localized ...Master Thesis -
Deblur Gaussian Splatting SLAM
(2025)We present Deblur-SLAM, a robust RGB SLAM pipeline designed to recover sharp reconstructions from motion-blurred inputs. The proposed method bridges the strengths of both frame-to-frame and frame-to-model approaches to model sub-frame camera trajectories that lead to high-fidelity reconstructions in motion-blurred settings. Moreover, our pipeline incorporates techniques such as online loop closure and global bundle adjustment to achieve ...Master Thesis -
Neural-Operator Approaches for Predicting Complex 3D Partial Differential Equations Over Real-World Geometries
(2025)This thesis explores the application of Neural Operator architectures to solve complex physics problems in real-world 3D domains. The primary focus is on predicting pressure and shear fields over a Formula 2 racecar, using only its geometry as input. From these predictions, aerodynamic coefficients, such as drag, are derived. Due to the challenges posed by the high dimensionality and fidelity of the problem, existing approaches were found ...Master Thesis -
From Signals to Features: Acoustic and Seismic Clustering for Debris Flow Analysis
(2025)Debris flows are highly dynamic natural hazards that pose significant risks in mountainous regions. Accurate detection and classification of these events are critical for early warning systems and hazard mitigation. This study investigates the potential of unsupervised learning, specifically Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs), to cluster debris flow events using a range of seismic and acoustic features, including seismic envelopes, ...Master Thesis -
Exploring the effect of Gprc5b and Saa1 overexpression on the metastatic seeding of colorectal cancer in vitro and in vivo
(2025)Metastasis remains the leading cause of cancer-related mortality, with existing therapeutic strategies achieving limited success. Yet, our understanding of the metastatic process remains limited. To address this, Borrelli et al. developed an in vivo CRISPR activation screen that identified perturbations in hepatocytes capable of either promoting or suppressing metastatic seeding. Building on these findings, this study aimed to ...Master Thesis -
Evaluation of the Social Sustainability of E-Scooters
(2025)While the rise of shared and free-floating e-scooters presents opportunities for sustainable urban transportation, little is known about the equitable integration into urban mobility ecosystems. This thesis investigates the social sustainability of e-scooters, focusing on spatial, social, and public space equity. In addition, it focuses on socially acceptable municipal policy strategies to effectively and efficiently improve the regulation ...Master Thesis -
Democratic Support for Spatial Planning Policies in Swiss Cities
(2025)This thesis investigates public support for communal spatial planning policies in Switzerland. To evaluate which factor impact the public support a newly created data set provided by the research group SPUR from the ETH Zurich is analyzed. The data consists of all ballots held on the communal level in Switzerland between 2008 and 2020 that are associated with spatial planning. This offers a unique opportunity to investigate the public ...Master Thesis
