A literature review of measurement methods for building designs that enable higher-value resource recovery: the Circular Economy Potential framework
(2025)The construction sector is one of the largest contributors to the global use of raw materials and land, the production of waste, and the use of water and energy. Despite overall high consumption, some built structures are more sustainable than others; particularly, some contribute to the circular economy in construction, supporting repeated use of construction resources in various forms (as buildings, systems, components, or materials). ...Working Paper -
Russia-North Korea: More Than a Marriage of Convenience?
(2025)Friends and Foes in the Indo-Pacific: Multilateralism Out Minilateralism In?The Italian Institute for International Political Studies published a report 'Friends and Foes in the Indo-Pacific'. In her chapter CSS Senior Researcher Névine Schepers analyzes the developments in the relations between Russia and North Korea.Report -
Systematizing science-policy interactions: A description of formats from Switzerland and Finland
(2025)Policymakers rely on the best available knowledge to address the complex policy challenges of our times, such as global pandemics or the mitigation and adaptation to climate change. In response, many mechanisms and formats for science-policy exchange have been created, yet there is little overview of these formats, limited clarity on their suitability for different contexts, and insufficient scaling of innovative approaches. This report ...Working Paper -
E-Cargo Bikes as a Personal Transport Mode in the UK: Insights from National Surveys and Suburban Trials
(2025)PreprintsThis paper explores the potential of e-cargo bikes as a personal transport mode in the UK, reporting on a series of surveys and trials. Our survey of 2,000 English adults indicated that while only 3% of adults were using an e-cargo bike at least once a month, 11% of non-users saw themselves as someone who might ride an e-cargo bike, rising to 20% in places with a strong cycling culture. Compared to non-users, e-cargo-bike users had similar ...Working Paper -

Mode-choice modelling of a sustainable mobility transition considering different bicycle types
(2025)Arbeitsberichte Verkehrs- und RaumplanungThis paper investigates the mode-shift potentials of a road-space reallocation policy with the goal of reducing car-use with the goals of improving liveability and reducing transport related emissions in urban areas. We show the mode-choice effects of repurposing 46% of road surface area from cars to bicycles, e-bikes (25 km/h) and s-pedelecs (45 km/h) as well as internalizing external transport costs in Zurich, Switzerland. The preferences ...Working Paper -
Pcdare Software Registers 3d Back Surface with Biplanar Radiographs: Application to Patients with Scoliosis
(2024)SSRNBackground and ObjectiveOptical 3D surface scanning is used increasingly in medical applications, including in the assessment of spinal deformity of patients with scoliosis. Despite the potential of surface scanning to avoid radiation burden on patients, correlations between the deformation parameters estimated solely from the 3D back surface in a “back-shape-to-spine” approach and the results obtained from radiographs remain moderate, ...Working Paper -
Investigating the relationship between internal spinal alignment and back shape in patients with scoliosis using PCdare: a comparative, reliability and validation study
(2025)medRxivOptical 3D surface scanning has emerged as a valuable modality for assessing spinal deformity in patients with scoliosis, avoiding radiation exposure. However, correlations remain moderate between deformation parameters obtained from radiographs and those estimated solely from the 3D back surface, referred to as the “back-shape-to-spine” approach. To improve the accuracy with which the back-shape-to-spine approach can estimate the internal ...Working Paper -
Deep source separation of overlapping gravitational-wave signals and non-stationary noise artifacts
(2025)arXivThe Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) will observe gravitational waves in the millihertz frequency band, detecting signals from a vast number of astrophysical sources embedded in instrumental noise. Extracting individual signals from these overlapping contributions is a fundamental challenge in LISA data analysis and is traditionally addressed using computationally expensive stochastic Bayesian techniques. In this work, we present ...Working Paper
