Adding Fuel to the (Gun)Fire: How Politicians Polarize the Public Debate
(2025)Center for Law & Economics Working Paper SeriesWe show how politicians polarize policy-relevant public debates. Analyzing 4.75 million tweets about 57 mass shootings events (2016-2022) with two-way fixed effects and event studies methodologies, we show that the partisan and tribal content of tweets— our measure of online polarization systematically increases after a politician first tweets about an event. Our detailed analysis of the timing of political interventions suggests that ...Working Paper -
Unveiling the Bond Between Artists and Their Work: A Vignette Study
(2025)Center for Law & Economics Working Paper SeriesThis paper empirically measures the bond between artists and their work. In a pre-registered vignette study, I investigate the impact of generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) in the creation process on the relationship between artists and their creations. The study provides evidence for the personality-rights theory of copyright law, predominant in continental Europe, which emphasizes a close personal bond between creators and their ...Working Paper -

A Comprehensive Stochastic Programming Model for Transfer Synchronization in Transit Networks
(2024)arXivWe investigate the stochastic transfer synchronization problem, which seeks to synchronize the timetables of different routes in a transit network to reduce transfer waiting times, delay times, and unnecessary in-vehicle times. We present a sophisticated two-stage stochastic mixed-integer programming model that takes into account variability in passenger walking times between bus stops, bus running times, dwell times, and demand uncertainty. ...Working Paper -
Leveraging Influencers to Reach and Engage Vulnerable Individuals: A Quasi-Experimental Field Study with a Digital Health Intervention (Preprint)
(2025)JMIR PreprintsBackground: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death, present economic challenges to healthcare systems worldwide, and disproportionally affect vulnerable individuals of low socioeconomic status (SES). While digital health interventions (DHIs) offer scalable and cost-effective solutions to promote health literacy and encourage behavior change, key challenges concern how to effectively (a) REACH and (b) ENGAGE ...Working Paper -
Emigration Prospects, Gender-based Preferences, and the Choice of Major
(2025)CES Working Paper SeriesWe explore how emigration prospects influence students’ choice of university majors in a high-emigration setting. Using a discrete choice experiment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we find that students prioritize salary prospects when choosing their major. Moreover, students—including those who do not intend to migrate—place significant weight on emigration prospects when choosing a major. This finding reveals how students factor emigration ...Working Paper
