Report and preliminary results of Poseidon-Cruise P336
(2006)Berichte aus dem Fachbereich Geowissenschaften der Universität BremenCruise P336 CRESTS with R/V Poseidon studied the eastern portion of the Cretan Sea, north of the island of Crete, Greece. This area of the eastern Mediterranean Sea represents the northernmost portion of the forearc region of the Hellenic subduction zone, located immediately south of the volcanic island arc (Aegean islands of Santorini, etc.). Owing to the rather complex tectonic history with Crete having been exhumed from ...Report -
Multifractal Omori-Utsu Law for Earthquake Triggering
(2006)The Multifractal Stress-Activated (MSA) model is a statistical model of triggered seismicity based on mechanical and thermodynamic principles. It predicts that, above a triggering magnitude cut-off M 0 , the exponent p of the Omori-Utsu law for the seismic decay of aftershocks is a linear increasing function p(M)=aM+b of the mainshock magnitude M [Ouillon and Sornette, 2005]. First empirical support for this prediction has ...Report -
Automated Extraction, Refinement, and Update of Road Databases from Imagery and Other Data
(2006)Official publicationRoads are important objects for many applications of topographic data such as car navigation systems. They are often acquired manually and as this entails significant effort, automation is desirable. Deficits in automation, particularly linked to human interaction have led to the formation of this EuroSDR working group on the automated extraction, refinement, and update of road databases from imagery and other data. In the introductory ...Report -
Indicators for a European cross-country assessment of non-timber forest products & services
(2006)Tiedonantoja : Research Notes ~ Issues affecting enterprise development in the forest sector in EuropeThe study task was aimed to produce an overview of selected qualitative indicators with fragmentary data available through COST Action E30 phase one country reports (Jagér 2005). A preliminary set of first and second class of indicators to help the comparison and classification of non-timber forest products and services is suggested with some empirical testing in 14 respectively 17 European countries.Report -

National Approaches to Risk Profiling
(2006)Roundtables on Comprehensive Risk Analyses and ManagementThe report reviews the outcome of the 1st Zurich Roundtable on Comprehensive Risk Analysis and Management that took place on 9 December 2005 at ETH Zurich. The Roundtable was divided into three sessions on the assessment of the contemporary risk environment, conceptual approaches to risk analysis and the establishment of an international risk dialogue. This CRN-Roundtable Report reviews in brief the outcomes of the three sessions, outlines ...Report
