Automated Extraction, Refinement, and Update of Road Databases from Imagery and Other Data
(2006)Official publicationRoads are important objects for many applications of topographic data such as car navigation systems. They are often acquired manually and as this entails significant effort, automation is desirable. Deficits in automation, particularly linked to human interaction have led to the formation of this EuroSDR working group on the automated extraction, refinement, and update of road databases from imagery and other data. In the introductory ...Report -

Indicators for a European cross-country assessment of non-timber forest products & services
(2006)Tiedonantoja : Research Notes ~ Issues affecting enterprise development in the forest sector in EuropeThe study task was aimed to produce an overview of selected qualitative indicators with fragmentary data available through COST Action E30 phase one country reports (Jagér 2005). A preliminary set of first and second class of indicators to help the comparison and classification of non-timber forest products and services is suggested with some empirical testing in 14 respectively 17 European countries.Report -

Comparative Evaluation of Modeling and Simulation Techniques for Interdependent Critical Infrastructures
(2008)There are numerous methodical approaches to model, numerically analyses or/and simulate single systems’ behavior. However, modeling interdependencies between different systems (so called system-of-systems) and to describe their complex behav-ior, necessarily by simulation, is still an unresolved issue. The present report contains the results of a first-of-its-kind literature review of modeling and simulation techniques which has identified ...Report -
Environment-Aware Freeform Displays
(2007)Technical ReportsInteractive environment-aware display bubbles have been introduced in a novel display metaphor [3] which allows screens to be instantiated with a freeform shape anywhere on demand. The bubbles are adapted either using a matching set of interaction schemes in a collaborative setting or as a reaction to occluders detected in the environment. In this paper, this novel display metaphor is evaluated in a user study. Based on various test ...Report
