Search for new resonances decaying via WZ to leptons in proton-proton collisions at √s=8TeV
(2015)Physics Letters BA search is performed in proton–proton collisions at s=8 TeV for exotic particles decaying via WZ to fully leptonic final states with electrons, muons, and neutrinos. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1. No significant excess is observed above the expected standard model background. Upper bounds at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section of a W′ boson as predicted by an extended gauge ...Journal Article -
Observation of a peaking structure in the J/ψφ mass spectrum from B±→J/ψφK± decays
(2014)Physics Letters BA peaking structure in the J/ψφ mass spectrum near threshold is observed in B ±→J/ψφK± decays, produced in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample, selected on the basis of the dimuon decay mode of the J/ψ, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.2 fb-1. Fitting the structure to an S-wave relativistic Breit-Wigner lineshape above a three-body phase-space nonresonant component gives a ...Journal Article -
Inclusive search for a vector-like T quark with charge 2/3 in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV
(2014)Physics Letters BA search is performed for a massive new vector-like quark T, with charge 2/3, that is pair produced together with its antiparticle in proton–proton collisions. The data were collected by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012 at s=8TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.5fb−1. The T quark is assumed to decay into three different final states, bW, tZ, and tH. The search is carried out using events with at ...Journal Article -
Angular analysis and branching fraction measurement of the decay B0→K*0μ+μ-
(2013)Physics Letters BThe angular distributions and the differential branching fraction of the decay B0→K*(892)0μ+μ- are studied using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.2fb-1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in pp collisions at s=7TeV. From more than 400 signal decays, the forward-backward asymmetry of the muons, the K*(892)0 longitudinal polarization fraction, and the differential branching fraction are determined as a ...Journal Article -
Search for a non-standard-model Higgs boson decaying to a pair of new light bosons in four-muon final states
(2013)Physics Letters BResults are reported from a search for non-standard-model Higgs boson decays to pairs of new light bosons, each of which decays into the μ+μ- final state. The new bosons may be produced either promptly or via a decay chain. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.3 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at s=7 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011. Such Higgs boson decays are predicted in several scenarios of ...Journal Article -
The performance of the CMS muon detector in proton-proton collisions at √s= 7 TeV at the LHC
(2013)Journal of InstrumentationThe performance of all subsystems of the CMS muon detector has been studied by using a sample of proton-proton collision data at √s = 7 TeV collected at the LHC in 2010 that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 40 pb-1. The measured distributions of the major operational parameters of the drift tube (DT), cathode strip chamber (CSC), and resistive plate chamber (RPC) systems met the design specifications. The spatial ...Journal Article -

Study of the Mass and Spin-Parity of the Higgs Boson Candidate via Its Decays to Z Boson Pairs
(2013)Physical Review LettersA study is presented of the mass and spin-parity of the new boson recently observed at the LHC at a mass near 125 GeV. An integrated luminosity of 17.3 fb−1, collected by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, is used. The measured mass in the ZZ channel, where both Z bosons decay to e or μ pairs, is 126.2±0.6(stat)±0.2(syst) GeV. The angular distributions of the lepton pairs in this ...Journal Article -
Observation of Sequential gamma Suppression in PbPb Collisions
(2012)Physical Review LettersThe suppression of the individual Υ(nS) states in PbPb collisions with respect to their yields in pp data has been measured. The PbPb and pp data sets used in the analysis correspond to integrated luminosities of 150 μb−1 and 230 nb−1, respectively, collected in 2011 by the CMS experiment at the LHC, at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 2.76 TeV. The Υ(nS) yields are measured from the dimuon invariant mass spectra. The suppression ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the Electron Charge Asymmetry in Inclusive W Production in pp Collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2012)Physical Review LettersA measurement of the electron charge asymmetry in inclusive pp→W+X→eν+X production at √s=7 TeV is presented based on data recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 840 pb−1. The electron charge asymmetry reflects the unequal production of W+ and W− bosons in pp collisions. The electron charge asymmetry is measured in bins of the absolute value of electron pseudorapidity in the range of ...Journal Article
