Unraveling gelation kinetics, arrested dynamics and relaxation phenomena in filamentous colloids by photon correlation imaging
(2022)Soft MatterThe fundamental understanding of the gelation kinetics, stress relaxation and temporal evolution in colloidal filamentous gels is central to many aspects of soft and biological matter, yet a complete description of the inherent complex dynamics of these systems is still missing. By means of photon correlation imaging (PCI), we studied the gelation of amyloid fibril solutions, chosen as a model filamentous colloid with immediate significance ...Journal Article -
High-dimensional asymptotics for percolation of Gaussian free field level sets
(2015)Electronic Journal of ProbabilityWe consider the Gaussian free field on Zd, d≥3, and prove that the critical density for percolation of its level sets behaves like 1/d1+o(1) as d tends to infinity. Our proof gives the principal asymptotic behavior of the corresponding critical level h∗(d). Moreover, it shows that a related parameter h∗∗(d) introduced by Rodriguez and Sznitman in [23] is in fact asymptotically equivalent to h∗(d).Journal Article -
A lower bound for disconnection by random interlacements
(2014)Electronic Journal of ProbabilityWe consider the vacant set of random interlacements on Zd, with d bigger or equal to 3, in the percolative regime. Motivated by the large deviation principles obtained in our recent work arXiv:1304.7477, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of the probability that a large body gets disconnected from infinity by the random interlacements. We derive an asymptotic lower bound, which brings into play tilted interlacements, and relates the ...Journal Article -
Logarithmic Components of the Vacant Set for Random Walk on a Discrete Torus
(2008)Electronic Journal of ProbabilityThis work continues the investigation, initiated in a recent work by Benjamini and Sznitman, of percolative properties of the set of points not visited by a random walk on the discrete torus (Z/NZ)d up to time uNd in high dimension d. If u>0 is chosen sufficiently small it has been shown that with overwhelming probability this vacant set contains a unique giant component containing segments of length c0logN for some constant c0>0, and ...Journal Article -
Evaluation of the molecular inclusion process of β-hexachlorocyclohexane in cyclodextrins
(2019)RSC AdvancesThe present work aimed to study the guest–host complexes of β-hexachlorocyclohexane (β-HCH), a pesticide with high environmental stability that can cause severe health problems, with the most common cyclodextrins (α-, β-, and γ-CDs). The formation reactions of these molecular inclusion complexes were addressed in this research. The multiple minima hypersurface methodology, quantum calculations based on density functional theory and a ...Journal Article -
Transient in situ measurement of kombucha biofilm growth and mechanical properties
(2021)Food & FunctionKombucha is a traditional beverage obtained by the fermentation of sugared tea by a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast which has recently re-emerged as a popular lifestyle product with potential health benefits. The characteristic feature of kombucha is the formation of a cellulosic biofilm due to the excretion of bacterial cellulose with high purity and crystallinity. Despite the growing industrial and technological interest in ...Journal Article -
Temperature-dependent modulation by biaryl-based monomers of the chain length and morphology of biphenyl-based supramolecular polymers
(2021)Chemical ScienceSupramolecular copolymerizations offer attractive options to introduce structural and functional diversity in supramolecular polymer materials. Yet, general principles and structure-property relationships for rational comonomer design remain lacking. Here, we report on the supramolecular (co)aggregation of a phenylpyridine and bipyridine derivative of a recently reported biphenyl tetracarboxamide-based monomer. We show that both arylpyridines ...Journal Article -
Principal Possibility of the Successful Nowcast and Short-Term Forecast in the Middle Atmosphere Based on the Observed UV Irradiance
(2012)International Journal of GeophysicsWe have applied chemistry-climate model (CCM) SOCOL to simulate the distribution of the temperature and gas species in the upper stratosphere and mesosphere. As an input for the simulation, we employ daily spectral solar UV irradiance measured by SUSIM instrument onboard UARS satellite in January 1992. We have carried out an ensemble of nine 1-month long simulations using slightly different initial states of the atmosphere. We have compared ...Journal Article -
Tunnelling time in strong field ionisation
(2014)Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical PhysicsWe revisit the common approaches to tunnelling time in the context of attoclock experiments. These experiments measure tunnelling time using close-to-circularly polarised light of the infrared ultrashort laser pulse. We test the sensitivity of the attoclock measurements of tunnelling time to non-adiabatic effects, as described by a well-known theoretical model first developed by Perelomov, Popov, and Terentʼev. We find that in the case ...Journal Article -
