Abstract
Precision machinery employs a variety of materials for its structures: cast iron, welded steel, natural stone, mineral cast, ultra-high performance concrete. Granite and gabbro stone sorts are occasionally used in high-precision machine tools, and in the metrological industry due to their long-term stability as a result of low residual stresses in the material. For this work, experiments were set up to analyze and evaluate the influence of humidity variations as well as water exposure on the geometrical and dimensional characteristics of natural stones.
