dc.description.abstract
Few definite design guidelines for stepped spillways are available to date. To fill in this gap, experimental model studies on the characteristic two-phase skimming flow down a stepped chute were conducted at the Laboratory of Hydraulics, Hydrology and Glaciology (VAW) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich. The paper focuses on significant findings of the research program and the development of design guidance to lessen the need for individual physical model studies. Finally, a design example is pre-sented.
