Swiss municipality mergers since 2000: A dataset to easily aggregate municipality-level data to 2021 municipalities

Abstract

Swiss municipalities are constantly merging into larger units. When working with municipality-level data, these mergers must be taken into account - multiple municipalities that existed e.g. in 2000 might have merged to a single municipality in 2021, therefore data must be aggregated accordingly. This dataset offers a convenient way to do so, as it contains each municipality of the year 2000 and its current (2021) municipality number (BFS).
