dc.description.abstract
These animations show so-called Lagrangian growth rates (LGR) of forecast uncertainty based on operational ensemble prediction systems. The first animation shows LGR of potential vorticity on 315 K from the ECMWF ensemble data assimilation background forecasts, and the second animation shows LGR of geopotential height at 250 hPa from four TIGGE ensemble systems (ECMWF, JMA, NCEP and UKMO). Animations show hourly fields over the North Atlantic region for the period 20 November 2020 – 10 March 2021.
