Abstract
This paper presents a rapid and scalable implementation of an embedded model predictive control (MPC) on a fieldprogrammable gate arrays (FPGA) using a high-level synthesis (HLS) tool. This solution enables a real-time implementation of indirect MPC with a long-prediction horizon, even for systems operating at high switching frequencies. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by comparing the required solving time to other solvers and for different embedded platforms for an exemplary three-phase inverter with LCL-filter. The results show that a good operation of the power electronic system up to a switching frequency fsw of 100 kHz can be achieved even on a low-cost FPGA, opening up possibilities to facilitate MPC for a wide range of new applications.
