Epilogue: globalizing transdisciplinarity

Abstract

This Handbook of global perspectives on transdisciplinarity is a timely contribution to theory and practice in countries both north and south of the Equator. This Epilogue unpacks meanings of the overarching terms “global” and “transdisciplinarity.” Subsequent sections focus on four major themes and related subtopics that emerged across chapters and complement the key messages Roderick Lawrence identified in his Introduction to the volume. The second section focuses on the evolution of transdisciplinary dimensions of inter- and transdisciplinary fields and the third section on other transactional spaces for transdisciplinary research. The fourth section considers the nature and dynamics of co-production of knowledge, then the fifth deepens understanding of the role of cousin theme of dialogue in collaborations. The closing section highlights overlaps of transdisciplinarity with parallel movements and organizations along with final reflections on prospects for transdisciplinarity in the future.
