Switzerland: Not a Candidate But a Partner in EU Enlargement

Abstract

Switzerland has neither membership ambitions nor a formal role in EU decision-making on enlargement, but it is affected by EU enlargement - through the opening of markets and migration - and involved in supporting the European integration of Eastern Europe. The chapter describes Swiss support for the new member states and proposes that it should be shifted to the candidate countries in the next funding period.
