Design Methodology of Camshaft Driven Charge Valves for Pneumatic Engine Starts
(2015)Oil & Gas Science and TechnologyIdling losses constitute a significant amount of the fuel consumption of internal combustion engines. Therefore, shutting down the engine during idling phases can improve its overall efficiency. For driver acceptance a fast restart of the engine must be guaranteed. A fast engine start can be performed using a powerful electric starter and an appropriate battery which are found in hybrid electric vehicles, for example. However, these devices ...Conference Paper -
High speed videometric monitoring of rock breakage
(2018)ISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information SciencesEstimation of rock breakage characteristics plays an important role in optimising various industrial and mining processes used for rock comminution. Although little research has been undertaken into 3D photogrammetric measurement of the progeny kinematics, there is promising potential to improve the efficacy of rock breakage characterisation. In this study, the observation of progeny kinematics was conducted using a high speed, stereo ...Conference Paper -
Change Detection in Mire Ecosystems
(2007)International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information SciencesThe objective of this paper is to present an approach for assessing tree growth and shrub encroachment between 1997 and 2002 inopen mire land using CIR-aerial images, DSMs and LiDAR data. The study area is located in the Pre-alpine zone of Central Switzerland. The present study was carried out in the framework of the Swiss Mire Protection Program, where changes of forest area are a key issue. Automatic DSMs were ...Conference Paper -

(2011)International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information SciencesA new audio-visual learning medium has been developed at the Department of Environmental Sciences at ETH Zurich (Switzerland), for use in geographical information sciences (GIS) courses. This new medium, presented in the form of RepetitionUnits, allows students to review and consolidate the most important learning concepts on an individual basis. The new material consists of: a) a short ...Conference Paper -

The Small Acceptance Vertex Detector of NA61/SHINE
(2018)EPJ Web of ConferencesCharmonium production in heavy ion collisions is considered as an important diagnostic probe for studying the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter for potential phase transitions. The interpretation of existing data from the CERN SPS is hampered by a lack of knowledge on the properties of open charm particle production in the fireball. Moreover, open charm production in heavy ion collisions by itself is poorly understood. To ...Conference Paper -
Parity doubling of nucléons, Delta and Omega baryons across the deconfinement phase transition
(2017)EPJ Web of ConferencesIn this work we analyse positive- and negative-parity channels for the nucleón (spin 1/2 octet), Δ and Ω baryons (spin 3/2 decuplet) using lattice QCD. In Nature, at zero temperature, chiral symmetry is spontaneously broken, causing positive- and negative-parity ground states to have different masses. However, chiral symmetry is expected to be restored (for massless quarks) around the crossover temperature, implying that the two opposite ...Conference Paper
