Topology evaluation of slotless bearingless motors with toroidal windings
(2014)2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)In this paper, different winding and magnet topologies are analyzed and compared for a slotless bearingless disk drive with toroidal windings. Basis of the studies is a six phase motor with a diametrically magnetized one-pole-pair rotor. Due to the absence of mechanical bearings, the motor is suitable for applications with high purity and special chemical demands. Its slotless design results in low losses even at high rotational speeds. ...Conference Paper -

Concept of a Novel Bearingless Three-Pole Motor for Two-Sided Driven Applications
(2021)2021 24th International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS)This paper presents a novel bearingless three-pole motor for two-sided driven applications, i. e., two motors levitating and rotating a common rotor without any mechanical contact. When operating in chemically demanding environments its advantages are highly promising: the bearingless technology allows friction- and wear-free motion, unlimited lifetime and a hermetically sealed encapsulation of the rotor, while the novel motor convinces ...Conference Paper -

Magnetically Self-Bearing Drive System for Ultracentrifugation: towards 100'000 rpm and 200'000 g
(2021)2021 24th International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS)A novel magnetically double self-bearing drive system for ultracentrifugation is presented. It features an operating speed of 100’ 000 rpm, enabling centrifugal acceleration levels of 200’ 000g. The new drive system uniquely allows simple access to the centrifuge rotor for removal and loading. The design requirements are derived and the system feasibility is proved. The drive system working principle is demonstrated, a self-bearing motor ...Conference Paper -
Design and Characterization of a Bearingless Cross-flow Fan
(2021)2021 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM)This paper presents a high-speed bearingless cross-flow fan particularly suited for applications in chemically demanding environments. In general, bearingless motors convince with a friction-and wear-free operation, unlimited lifetime and a hermetically-sealed encapsulation of the rotor. For the proposed cross-flow fan, a double-sided use of such motors additionally leads to twice the available torque for the blade rotation as well as a ...Conference Paper
