Model Based Optimization of EMC Input Filters
(2008)2008 IEEE 11th Workshop on Control and Modeling for Power ElectronicsInput filters of power converters for compliance with regulatory electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards are often over-dimensioned in practice due to a non-optimal selection of number of filter stages and/or the lack of solid volumetric models of the inductor cores. This paper presents a systematic filter design approach based on a specific filter attenuation requirement and volumetric component parameters. It is shown that a minimal ...Conference Paper -
Topology evaluation of slotless bearingless motors with toroidal windings
(2014)2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)In this paper, different winding and magnet topologies are analyzed and compared for a slotless bearingless disk drive with toroidal windings. Basis of the studies is a six phase motor with a diametrically magnetized one-pole-pair rotor. Due to the absence of mechanical bearings, the motor is suitable for applications with high purity and special chemical demands. Its slotless design results in low losses even at high rotational speeds. ...Conference Paper -
Optimizing repulsive lorentz forces for a levitating induction cooker
(2014)2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)In this paper we study a novel way of induction cooking. Traditionally, an alternating magnetic field is used to induce currents in a ferromagnetic pan to heat foods. We use non-ferromagnetic materials and optimize the design for high repulsive forces in order to levitate the pan while simultaneously heating it and its contents. Our approach is simulation-based to study the influence of different parameters and to perform multidimensional ...Conference Paper -
Design and Characterization of a Bearingless Cross-flow Fan
(2021)2021 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM)This paper presents a high-speed bearingless cross-flow fan particularly suited for applications in chemically demanding environments. In general, bearingless motors convince with a friction-and wear-free operation, unlimited lifetime and a hermetically-sealed encapsulation of the rotor. For the proposed cross-flow fan, a double-sided use of such motors additionally leads to twice the available torque for the blade rotation as well as a ...Conference Paper
