Ultrafast thin disk lasers: sub-100 fs pulse duration and carrier envelope offset detection
(2013)EPJ Web of ConferencesWe present two milestone results that confirm that thin disk lasers are excellent candidates for driving extreme nonlinear optics experiments. In a first experiment using the broadband mixed sesquioxide gain material Yb:LuScO3, we demonstrate that thin disk lasers can access the sub-100 fs regime. In a second experiment, we detect for the first time the carrier envelope offset (CEO) frequency beat of an Yb:Lu2O3 thin disk laser.Conference Paper -
Adaptive model predictive control for constrained MIMO systems
(2013)IFAC Proceedings Volumes ~ 11th IFAC International Workshop on Adaptation and Learning in Control and Signal Processing (ALCOSP 2013)An adaptive output feedback control algorithm for constrained multiple input multiple output linear systems is proposed, able to cope with input and output constraints, output disturbances and measurement noise. The approach relies on a real-time set membership identification algorithm to provide bounds on the predicted plant outputs. These bounds are exploited in a receding horizon control strategy that guarantees recursive satisfaction ...Conference Paper -
Optical and x-ray time resolved study of the structural transition in mixed valence manganites
(2013)EPJ Web of ConferencesTime resolved optical reflectivity and x-ray diffraction techniques are employed to study the laser-induced structural response in two charge and orbitally ordered manganites. Optical data indicate a non-thermal nature of the laser-triggered phase transition via the disappearance of an optical phonon related to the charge and orbitally ordered phase. The x-ray diffraction measurements on superlattice reflections confirm the non-thermal ...Conference Paper -
Probing the longitudinal momentum spread of the electron wave packet at the tunnel exit
(2013)EPJ Web of ConferencesWe present an ellipticity resolved study of momentum distribution arising from strong-field ionization of helium. The influence of the ion potential on the departing electron is considered within a semi-classical model consisting of an initial tunneling step and subsequent classical propagation. We find that the momentum distribution can be explained by including the longitudinal momentum spread of the electron at the exit from the tunnel. ...Conference Paper -
Neutron radiography of heated high-performance mortar
(2013)MATEC Web of Conferences ~ Concrete Spalling Due to Fire Exposure: Proceedings of the 3rd International WorkshopNeutron radiography was applied to investigate the water distribution in mortar samples heated from one side to 600 °C. In mortar, aggregates and anhydrous cement are almost transparent to neutrons, while hydration products and water-filled capillary pores bear the largest attenuation. The evolution of the moisture profile shows a sharp dehydration front and accumulation of water due to condensation of water vapor behind this front.Conference Paper -
Search for a Higgs-like boson decaying into bottom quarks in the Z(II)H channel
(2013)EPJ Web of ConferencesAfter the discovery of a Higgs-like Boson with a mass close to 125 GeV at the LHC in summer 2012, we are showing the update on the analysis of the VH cannel. In this channel the Higgs-like Boson is produced in association with a vector boson and decaying into b quarks. We present the updated results on the full 2011 and 2012 7+8 TeV dataset. This poster will focus on one of the tree modes that are combined in this analysis, where the ...Conference Paper -
SUSY searches for EWK production of Gauginos and Sleptons at the LHC by CMS
(2013)EPJ Web of ConferencesWe search for signs of new physics in events with multi-leptonic final states in 9.2 fb−1 of protonproton collisions at √s = 8 TeV with the CMS experiment [1]. The final states under study comprise exactly three leptons, four leptons, a pair of same-sign leptons, two opposite-sign-same-flavor leptons plus jets, and two opposite- sign leptons which have a mass outside the Z-boson decay window. Observations agree well with the expectations ...Conference Paper -
Nanosilver emissions to the atmosphere: a new challenge?
(2013)E3S Web of Conferences ~ Proceedings of the 16th International Conference on Heavy Metals in the EnvironmentAtmospheric deposition of silver in Switzerland decreased significantly between 1995 and 2010, but recent increases in nanosilver production present a potentially new emission source of silver. ’While nanosilver is usually integrated in a robust matrix and its release is either controlled, dampened (highly diluted silver in nanosilver textiles) or prevented (computer modules), point source emissions of nanosilver can occur at the manufacturing ...Conference Paper -
Investigation on Automatic Change Detection Using Pixel-Changes and DSM-Changes with ALOS-PRISM Triplet Images
(2013)International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information SciencesA new algorithm for automatic change detection is presented. It detects a pixel-change and DSM-change from two orthoimages and two DSMs, then it extracts the polygons in elevation-changed areas. Pixel-change is detected by using least squares fitting technique. This method can extract the visible changed areas between two orthoimages, while DSM-change is detected by difference DSM. From these two changes, polygons in elevation-changed ...Conference Paper -
A Survey on Product Operators in Abstract Interpretation
(2013)Electronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science ~ Semantics, Abstract Interpretation, and Reasoning about Programs: Essays Dedicated to David A. Schmidt on the Occasion of his Sixtieth Birthday (Festschrift for Dave Schmidt)The aim of this paper is to provide a general overview of the product operators introduced in the literature as a tool to enhance the analysis accuracy in the Abstract Interpretation framework. In particular we focus on the Cartesian and reduced products, as well as on the reduced cardinal power, an under-used technique whose features deserve to be stressed for their potential impact in practical applications.Conference Paper
