dc.description.abstract
The adoption of Vehicle2Infrastructure technology will not only have impact on the traffic flow, but also on the emissions due to that. This paper proposes an environmental analysis at an intersection governed by V2I technology. The car’s behavior is described from an algorithm, which should either minimize the total delay or the number of stops during the simulation. These two cases are compared to a standard fixed traffic light. Simulations were run for different total demand, the results were discussed and compared. It can be noticed that besides the almost linear correlation between emissions and total demand close to the saturation flow, the algorithm for minimizing delay also pollutes the less, followed by the algorithm for minimizing the number of stops. For extremely undersaturated systems, the standard discharge strategy still seems to represent the best solution.
