Abstract

By using the flying capacitor as a transient energy buffer, an effective active damping (AD) of the input-filter of 3-level flying capacitor buck converters (FCBCs) can be achieved. The proposed AD for FCBCs can remove the typical negative input-resistance behavior of buck converters in an extended frequency range and improve the stability of DC systems. Furthermore, the proposed AD enables the design of compact input filters without additional damping circuits. Simulation results are presented to validate the control performance and the input impedance characteristics enabled by the proposed controller.
