Abstract

The renewed interest in collaborative housing in Latin America calls for a need to clarify concepts that demarcate this study field from a Latin American perspective. The concept of “social production and management of housing” (PGSH) provides a useful framework that encompasses collaborative self-organized forms of housing provision that requires more precise differentiations and distinctions. We aim to contribute to the academic and policy debates on PGSH in Latin America through an empirically grounded construction of a collaborative housing typology for Colombia, where there are collaborative forms of housing ensured by law negotiating a space within the national housing system. What types of collaborative forms of housing production and management exist in Colombia? What factors hinder or enable their ability to emerge and sustain themselves in time? In this paper we will present the first steps of the typology formation process: the identification of analytical dimensions and their application to empirical cases.
