Abstract

The motion of point-like masses in gravitational fields is described – in a Minkowski space-time metric – by an alternative theory to linearised general relativity (GRT). Its basic concept is that the inertial mass m(x) of a body depends spatially on the scalar potential Ø(x) of the gravitational field. A Lagrangian formalism leads to a modification of Newton’s law of gravitation. The theory explains correctly experiments generally considered classical tests of GRT, the perihelion shift of the orbit of a body in a central gravitational field, the deflection of light and the time-delay of electromagnetic pulses in gravitational fields.
