An integrated spatio-temporal view of riverine biodiversity using environmental DNA metabarcoding
(2024)Nature CommunicationsAnthropogenically forced changes in global freshwater biodiversity demand more efficient monitoring approaches. Consequently, environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis is enabling ecosystem-scale biodiversity assessment, yet the appropriate spatio-temporal resolution of robust biodiversity assessment remains ambiguous. Here, using intensive, spatio-temporal eDNA sampling across space (five rivers in Europe and North America, with an upper range ...Journal Article -
CLAID: Closing the Loop on AI & Data Collection — A cross-platform transparent computing middleware framework for smart edge-cloud and digital biomarker applications
(2024)Future Generation Computer SystemsThe increasing number of edge devices with enhanced sensing capabilities, such as smartphones, wearables, and IoT devices equipped with sensors, holds the potential for innovative smart-edge applications in healthcare. These devices generate vast amounts of multimodal data, enabling the implementation of digital biomarkers which can be leveraged by machine learning solutions to derive insights, predict health risks, and allow personalized ...Journal Article -
CMS ECAL VFE design, production and testing
(2024)Journal of InstrumentationMaintaining the required performance of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) barrel at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) requires the replacement of the entire on-detector electronics. 12240 new very front end (VFE) cards will amplify and digitize the signals of 61200 lead-tungstate crystals instrumented with avalanche photodiodes. The VFE cards host five channels of CATIA pre-amplifier ASICs followed by LiTE-DTU ...Journal Article -
Developing a climatological simplification of aerosols to enter the cloud microphysics of a global climate model
(2024)Atmospheric Chemistry and PhysicsAerosol particles influence cloud formation and properties. Hence climate models that aim for a physical representation of the climate system include aerosol modules. In order to represent more and more processes and aerosol species, their representation has grown increasingly detailed. However, depending on one's modelling purpose, the increased model complexity may not be beneficial, for example because it hinders understanding of model ...Journal Article -
High intensity beam dynamics assessment and challenges for HL-LHC
(2024)Journal of InstrumentationThe High Luminosity (HL-LHC) project aims to increase the integrated luminosity of CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by an order of magnitude compared to its initial design. This requires a large increase in bunch intensity and beam brightness compared to the first three LHC runs, and hence poses serious collective-effects challenges, related in particular to electron cloud, instabilities from beam-coupling impedance, and beam-beam ...Journal Article
