  1. Money Creation in a Neoclassical Economy: Equilibrium Multiplicity and the Liquidity Trap

Altermatt, Lukas; van Buggenum, Hugo; Voellmy, Lukas (2024)
    KOF Working Papers
We introduce banks that issue liquid deposits backed by bonds and capital into an otherwise standard cash-in-advance economy. Liquidity transformation by banks increases aggregate consumption and investment relative to a cash-only economy but can also lead to inefficient overinvestment. Furthermore, liquidity transformation can lead to multiple steady-state equilibria with different interest rates and real outcomes. Whenever multiple ...

  2. Effects of conventional, organic and conservation agriculture on soil physical properties, root growth and microbial habitats in a long-term field experiment

Oliveira, Emily M.; Wittwer, Raphaël; Hartmann, Martin; et al. (2024)
    Geoderma
Soil structure is important for plant growth and ecosystem functioning, and provides habitat for a wide range of soil biota. So far, very few studies directly compared the effects of three main farming practices (conventional, organic and conservation agriculture) on soil structure and soil physical properties. Here, we collected undisturbed soil cores from the FArming System and Tillage long-term field experiment (FAST) near Zurich ...

  3. Circadian rhythm analysis using wearable-based accelerometry as a digital biomarker of aging and healthspan

Shim, Jinjoo; Fleisch, Elgar; Barata, Filipe (2024)
    npj Digital Medicine
Recognizing the pivotal role of circadian rhythm in the human aging process and its scalability through wearables, we introduce CosinorAge, a digital biomarker of aging developed from wearable-derived circadian rhythmicity from 80,000 midlife and older adults in the UK and US. A one-year increase in CosinorAge corresponded to 8–12% higher all-cause and cause-specific mortality risks and 3–14% increased prospective incidences of age-related ...

  4. The powerful lens galaxy cluster PLCK G287.0+32.9 (θE ∼ 43″)

D'Addona, Maurizio; Mercurio, Amata; Rosati, Piero; et al. (2024)
    Astronomy & Astrophysics
We present a new high-precision strong-lensing model of PLCK G287.0+32.9, a massive lens galaxy cluster at z = 0:383, with the aim of obtaining an accurate estimation of its effective Einstein radius and total mass distribution. We also present a spectroscopic catalog containing accurate redshift measurements for close to 500 objects up to redshift z = 6, including multiply lensed sources and cluster member galaxies. Methods. We exploited ...

  5. Rôle des entreprises dans la révolution numérique de la formation

    Bolli, Thomas; Pusterla, Filippo (2024)
    ODEC Bulletin
