Terahertz Spectroscopy and Imaging up to 20 THz Based on Organic Crystals
(2024)TERAHERTZ, RF, MILLIMETER, AND SUBMILLIMETER-WAVE TECHNOLOGY AND APPLICATIONS XVIIWe present THz time-domain spectroscopy and imaging covering a wide frequency range up to 20 THz. Our approach uses highly efficient organic nonlinear optical crystals (DSTMS, OH1) and a compact femtosecond pump laser (1560 nm) with MHz repetition rate and ultrashort pulse width (<40 fs). By optimizing the optical geometry, we achieve high SNR (>80 dB at 4 THz, >70 dB at 10 THz). Our theoretical model agrees well with experiments. We ...Conference Paper -
Pathophysiology in cortico-amygdala circuits and excessive aversion processing: the role of oligodendrocytes and myelination
(2024)BRAIN COMMUNICATIONSStress-related psychiatric illnesses, such as major depressive disorder, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, present with alterations in emotional processing, including excessive processing of negative/aversive stimuli and events. The bidirectional human/primate brain circuit comprising anterior cingulate cortex and amygdala is of fundamental importance in processing emotional stimuli, and in rodents the medial prefrontal ...Review Article -
DNA-Based Replication of Programmable Colloidal Assemblies
(2024)SmallNature uses replication to amplify the information necessary for the intricate structures vital for life. Despite some successes with pure nucleotide structures, constructing synthetic microscale systems capable of replication remains largely out of reach. Here, a functioning strategy is shown for the replication of microscale particle assemblies using DNA-coated colloids. By positioning DNA-functionalized colloids using capillary forces ...Journal Article -
Mechanisms that link climate, soil properties and microbes to macroscale soil organic carbon dynamics: Insights from a geoclimatic gradient
(2024)Adequate representation of the soil organic carbon (SOC) cycle at the macroscale (km to global) is important in order to understand and predict the implications of SOC dynamics for the climate and our planet. Such adequate representation is challenging, because mechanistic knowledge about soils is derived from the much smaller mesoscale (mm to m). However, the dominant mechanisms and controls of the SOC cycle vary across scales. Therefore, ...Doctoral Thesis
