Measurement of the B0 s → μ+μ− decay properties and search for the B0 → μ+μ− decay in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2023)Physics Letters BMeasurements are presented of the Bs0→μ+μ− branching fraction and effective lifetime, as well as results of a search for the B0→μ+μ− decay in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV at the LHC. The analysis is based on data collected with the CMS detector in 2016–2018 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140fb−1. The branching fraction of the Bs0→μ+μ− decay and the effective Bs0 meson lifetime are the most precise single measurements ...Journal Article -
Search for Higgs boson decays into Z and J/ψ and for Higgs and Z boson decays into J/ψ or Y pairs in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2023)Physics Letters BDecays of the Higgs boson into a Z boson and a J/ψ or ψ(2S) meson are searched for in four-lepton final states with the CMS detector at the LHC. A data set of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1 is used. Using the same data set, decays of the Higgs and Z boson into quarkonium pairs are also searched for. An observation of such decays with this sample would indicate the presence of physics ...Journal Article -
Precision measurement of the Z boson invisible width in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2023)Physics Letters BA precise measurement of the invisible width of the Z boson produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is presented using data recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.3fb−1. The result is obtained from a simultaneous fit to kinematic distributions for two data samples of Z boson plus jets: one dominated by Z boson decays to invisible particles and the other ...Journal Article -
Search for nonresonant Higgs boson pair production in final state with two bottom quarks and two tau leptons in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2023)Physics Letters BA search for the nonresonant production of Higgs boson pairs (HH ) via gluon-gluon and vector boson fusion processes in final states with two bottom quarks and two tau leptons is presented. The search uses data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=13TeV recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138fb−1. Events in which at least one tau lepton decays hadronically are ...Journal Article -
Search for a massive scalar resonance decaying to a light scalar and a Higgs boson in the four b quarks final state with boosted topology
(2023)Physics Letters BWe search for new massive scalar particles X and Y through the resonant process X→YH→bb¯bb¯, where H is the standard model Higgs boson. Data from CERN LHC proton-proton collisions are used, collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 2016–2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138fb−1. The search is performed in mass ranges of 0.9–4 TeV for X and 60–600 GeV for Y, where both Y and H are reconstructed as Lorentz-boosted ...Journal Article -
Search for electroweak production of charginos and neutralinos at √s = 13 TeV in final states containing hadronic decays of WW, WZ, or WH and missing transverse momentum
(2023)Physics Letters BThis Letter presents a search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos via electroweak interactions. The results are based on data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1. The search considers final states with large missing transverse momentum and pairs of hadronically decaying bosons WW, WZ, and WH, where ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the mass dependence of the transverse momentum of lepton pairs in Drell–Yan production in proton–proton collisions at √s=13TeV
(2023)The European Physical Journal CThe double differential cross sections of the Drell–Yan lepton pair (ℓ+ℓ- , dielectron or dimuon) production are measured as functions of the invariant mass mℓℓ , transverse momentum pT(ℓℓ) , and φη∗ . The φη∗ observable, derived from angular measurements of the leptons and highly correlated with pT(ℓℓ) , is used to probe the low- pT(ℓℓ) region in a complementary way. Dilepton masses up to 1 TeV are investigated. Additionally, a measurement ...Journal Article -
Observation of electroweak W+W− pair production in association with two jets in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2023)Physics Letters BAn observation is reported of the electroweak production of a W+W− pair in association with two jets, with both W bosons decaying leptonically. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV, collected by the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. Events are selected by requiring exactly two opposite-sign leptons (electrons or muons) and two jets with large pseudorapidity separation and ...Journal Article -
Search for long-lived particles decaying to a pair of muons in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2023)Journal of High Energy PhysicsAn inclusive search for long-lived exotic particles decaying to a pair of muons is presented. The search uses data collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV in 2016 and 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 97.6 fb−1. The experimental signature is a pair of oppositely charged muons originating from a common secondary vertex spatially separated from the pp interaction point ...Journal Article -
Observation of triple J/ψ meson production in proton-proton collisions
(2023)Nature PhysicsProtons consist of three valence quarks, two up-quarks and one down-quark, held together by gluons and a sea of quark-antiquark pairs. Collectively, quarks and gluons are referred to as partons. In a proton-proton collision, typically only one parton of each proton undergoes a hard scattering – referred to as single-parton scattering – leaving the remainder of each proton only slightly disturbed. Here, we report the study of double- and ...Journal Article
