Abstract
This work presents a microfluidic system combined with electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) for real-time monitoring the growth of fission yeast, S. pombe, at single-cell resolution. Rod-shaped S. pombe cells can be reliably immobilized at orifices in a channel wall by applying mild suction. The system enables subsequent culturing of the immobilized S. pombe cells in an upright position, while longitudinal cell growth can be continuously monitored by means of EIS over several hours and validated through concurrent confocal imaging.
