Abstract
Hostun sand is commonly used in geotechnical research, both for element testing and centrifuge modelling. In this paper, the shear modulus of Hostun sand is investigated. For the measurement of the small strain shear modulus bender elements installed in a triaxial device were used. The effect of relative density and stress level was examined. The measurements were analysed in the time domain. Results for were compared with results from literature. For the calculation of the shear modulus degradation with increasing shear strain , cyclic simple shear tests (DSS) were conducted. The NGI simple shear apparatus was used, modified to allow for controlled strain and stress shearing of the sample. The results are presented and compared with analytical expressions. Mehr anzeigen
