Measurement of prompt ψ(2S) production cross sections in proton–lead and proton–proton collisions at √sNN =5.02TeV
(2019)Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy PhysicsMeasurements of prompt ψ(2S) meson production cross sections in proton–lead (pPb) and proton–proton (pp) collisions at a nucleon–nucleon center-of-mass energy of √sNN =5.02TeV are reported. The results are based on pPb and pp data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 34.6nb−1 and 28.0pb-1, respectively. The nuclear modification factor RpPb is measured for prompt ψ(2S) in the transverse ...Journal Article -
Study of the underlying event in top quark pair production in pp collisions at 13 TeV
(2019)The European Physical Journal CMeasurements of normalized differential cross sections as functions of the multiplicity and kinematic variables of charged-particle tracks from the underlying event in top quark and antiquark pair production are presented. The measurements are performed in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, and are based on data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 ...Journal Article -
Measurement of nuclear modification factors of ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) mesons in PbPb collision at √s NN = 5.02 TeV
(2019)Physics Letters BThe cross sections for ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) production in lead–lead (PbPb) and proton–proton (pp) collisions at √s NN = 5.02 TeV have been measured using the CMS detector at the LHC. The nuclear modification factors, RAA, derived from the PbPb-to-pp ratio of yields for each state, are studied as functions of meson rapidity and transverse momentum, as well as PbPb collision centrality. The yields of all three states are found to be ...Journal Article -
Search for supersymmetry in events with a photon, jets, b -jets, and missing transverse momentum in proton–proton collisions at 13TeV
(2019)The European Physical Journal CA search for supersymmetry is presented based on events with at least one photon, jets, and large missing transverse momentum produced in proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1 and were recorded at the LHC with the CMS detector in 2016. The analysis characterizes signal-like events by categorizing the data into various signal regions based on the number of ...Journal Article -
Search for a heavy pseudoscalar boson decaying to a Z and a Higgs boson at √s=13TeV
(2019)The European Physical Journal CA search is presented for a heavy pseudoscalar boson A decaying to a Z boson and a Higgs boson with mass of 125GeV. In the final state considered, the Higgs boson decays to a bottom quark and antiquark, and the Z boson decays either into a pair of electrons, muons, or neutrinos. The analysis is performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1 collected in 2016 by the CMS experiment at the LHC from ...Journal Article -
Search for pair production of vectorlike quarks in the fully hadronic final state
(2019)Physical Review DThe results of two searches for pair production of vectorlike T or B quarks in fully hadronic final states are presented, using data from the CMS experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data were collected at the LHC during 2016 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. A cut-based analysis specifically targets the bW decay mode of the T quark and allows for the reconstruction of the T quark candidates. In a ...Journal Article -
An embedding technique to determine ττ backgrounds in proton-proton collision data
(2019)Journal of InstrumentationAn embedding technique is presented to estimate standard model ττ backgrounds from data with minimal simulation input. In the data, the muons are removed from reconstructed μμ events and replaced with simulated tau leptons with the same kinematic properties. In this way, a set of hybrid events is obtained that does not rely on simulation except for the decay of the tau leptons. The challenges in describing the underlying event or the ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the average very forward energy as a function of the track multiplicity at central pseudorapidities in proton-proton collisions at √s=13TeV
(2019)The European Physical Journal CThe average total energy as well as its hadronic and electromagnetic components are measured with the CMS detector at pseudorapidities −6.6<η<−5.2 in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy s√=13TeV. The results are presented as a function of the charged particle multiplicity in the region |η|<2. This measurement is sensitive to correlations induced by the underlying event structure over a very wide pseudorapidity region. The ...Journal Article -
Search for a heavy resonance decaying to a top quark and a vector-like top quark in the lepton + jets final state in pp collisions at √ s=13TeV
(2019)The European Physical Journal CA search is presented for a heavy spin-1 resonance Z′ decaying to a top quark and a vector-like top quark partner T in the lepton + jets final state. The search is performed using a data set of p p collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1 as recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC in the year 2016. The analysis is optimised for final states arising from the T decay modes ...Journal Article -
Search for invisible decays of a Higgs boson produced through vector boson fusion in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV
(2019)Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy PhysicsA search for invisible decays of a Higgs boson is performed using proton-proton collision data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016 at a center-of-mass energy s=13TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-1. The search targets the production of a Higgs boson via vector boson fusion. The data are found to be in agreement with the background contributions from standard model processes. An observed (expected) ...Journal Article
