Search for long-lived charged particles in proton-proton collisions at s√= 13 TeV
(2016)Physical Review DResults are presented of a search for heavy stable charged particles produced in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.5 fb-1 collected in 2015 with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The search is conducted using signatures of anomalously high energy deposits in the silicon tracker and long time-of-flight measurements by the muon system. The data are consistent with the ...Journal Article -
Search for single production of scalar leptoquarks in proton-proton collisions at √s =8 TeV
(2016)Physical Review DA search is presented for the production of both first- and second-generation scalar leptoquarks with a final state of either two electrons and one jet or two muons and one jet. The search is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energy √s=8 TeV recorded with the CMS detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb−1. Upper limits are set on both the first- and second-generation leptoquark ...Journal Article -
Search for two Higgs bosons in final states containing two photons and two bottom quarks in proton-proton collisions at 8 TeV
(2016)Physical Review DA search is presented for the production of two Higgs bosons in final states containing two photons and two bottom quarks. Both resonant and nonresonant hypotheses are investigated. The analyzed data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at √s=8 TeV collected with the CMS detector. Good agreement is observed between data and predictions of the standard model (SM). Upper limits are set at 95% ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the charge asymmetry in top quark pair production in pp collisions at √s =8 TeV using a template method
(2016)Physical Review DThe charge asymmetry in the production of top quark and antiquark pairs is measured in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb−1, were collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. Events with a single isolated electron or muon, and four or more jets, at least one of which is likely to have originated from hadronization of a bottom quark, are selected. A ...Journal Article -
Search for pair production of first and second generation leptoquarks in proton-proton collisions at √s =8 TeV
(2016)Physical Review DA search for pair production of first and second generation leptoquarks is performed in final states containing either two charged leptons and two jets, or one charged lepton, one neutrino and two jets, using proton-proton collision data at s=8 TeV. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb-1, were recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. First-generation scalar leptoquarks with masses less than 1010 (850) GeV are ...Journal Article -
Studies of inclusive four-jet production with two b-tagged jets in proton-proton collisions at 7 TeV
(2016)Physical Review DMeasurements are presented of the cross section for the production of at least four jets, of which at least two originate from b quarks, in proton-proton collisions. Data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV are used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 pb−1. The cross section is measured as a function of the jet transverse momentum for pT>20 GeV, and of the jet pseudorapidity for ...Journal Article -
Hygroscopicity of nanoparticles produced from homogeneous nucleation in the CLOUD experiments
(2016)Atmospheric Chemistry and PhysicsSulfuric acid, amines and oxidized organics have been found to be important compounds in the nucleation and initial growth of atmospheric particles. Because of the challenges involved in determining the chemical composition of objects with very small mass, however, the properties of the freshly nucleated particles and the detailed pathways of their formation processes are still not clear. In this study, we focus on a challenging size ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the muon neutrino inclusive charged-current cross section in the energy range of 1–3 GeV with the T2K INGRID detector
(2016)Physical Review DWe report a measurement of the νμ-nucleus inclusive charged-current cross section (=σcc) on iron using data from the INGRID detector exposed to the J-PARC neutrino beam. The detector consists of 14 modules in total, which are spread over a range of off-axis angles from 0° to 1.1°. The variation in the neutrino energy spectrum as a function of the off-axis angle, combined with event topology information, is used to calculate this cross ...Journal Article -
Measurement of double-differential muon neutrino charged-current interactions on C8H8 without pions in the final state using the T2K off-axis beam
(2016)Physical Review DWe report the measurement of muon neutrino charged-current interactions on carbon without pions in the final state at the T2K beam energy using 5.734×1020 protons on target. For the first time the measurement is reported as a flux-integrated, double-differential cross section in muon kinematic variables (cosθμ, pμ), without correcting for events where a pion is produced and then absorbed by final state interactions. Two analyses are ...Journal Article -
Measurement of Muon Antineutrino Oscillations with an Accelerator-Produced Off-Axis Beam
(2016)Physical Review LettersT2K reports its first measurements of the parameters governing the disappearance of ¯νμ in an off-axis beam due to flavor change induced by neutrino oscillations. The quasimonochromatic ¯νμ beam, produced with a peak energy of 0.6 GeV at J-PARC, is observed at the far detector Super-Kamiokande, 295 km away, where the ¯νμ survival probability is expected to be minimal. Using a data set corresponding to 4.01×1020 protons on target, 34 fully ...Journal Article
