Lamb shift measurement of antihydrogen for determining the charge radius of antiproton and a stringent test of CPT symmetry
(2017)Journal of Physics: Conference SeriesMeasurements of Lamb shift in antihydrogen atom have been planned to extract the antiproton charge radius which has never been experimentally investigated. A hyperfine spin filter and a microwave cavity can be employed.Journal Article -
Evaluating arbitrary strain configurations and doping in graphene with Raman spectroscopy
(2018)2D MaterialsThe properties of graphene depend sensitively on strain and doping affecting its behavior in devices and allowing an advanced tailoring of this material. A knowledge of the strain configuration, i.e. the relative magnitude of the components of the strain tensor, is particularly crucial, because it governs effects like band-gap opening, pseudo-magnetic fields, and induced superconductivity. It also enters critically in the analysis of the ...Journal Article -
Apancreatic pigs cloned using Pdx1-disrupted fibroblasts created via TALEN-mediated mutagenesis
(2017)OncotargetPancreatic and duodenal homeobox 1 (PDX1) plays a crucial role in pancreas development, β-cell differentiation, and maintenance of mature β-cell function. In this study, we designed a strategy to produce PDX1-knockout (KO) pigs. A transcription activator-like effector nuclease (TALEN) pair targeting exon 1 of the swine PDX1 gene was constructed. Porcine fetal fibroblasts (PFFs) were transfected with the TALEN plasmids plus a surrogate ...Journal Article -
Future snowfall in the Alps: projections based on the EURO-CORDEX regional climate models
(2018)The CryosphereTwenty-first century snowfall changes over the European Alps are assessed based on high-resolution regional climate model (RCM) data made available through the EURO-CORDEX initiative. Fourteen different combinations of global and regional climate models with a target resolution of 12 km and two different emission scenarios are considered. As raw snowfall amounts are not provided by all RCMs, a newly developed method to separate snowfall ...Journal Article -

Detecting impacts of extreme events with ecological in situ monitoring networks
(2017)BiogeosciencesExtreme hydrometeorological conditions typically impact ecophysiological processes on land. Satellite-based observations of the terrestrial biosphere provide an important reference for detecting and describing the spatiotemporal development of such events. However, in-depth investigations of ecological processes during extreme events require additional in situ observations. The question is whether the density of existing ecological in ...Journal Article -
Dendritic polarizing agents for DNP SENS
(2017)Chemical ScienceDynamic Nuclear Polarization Surface Enhanced NMR Spectroscopy (DNP SENS) is an effective method to significantly improve solid-state NMR investigation of solid surfaces. The presence of unpaired electrons (polarizing agents) is crucial for DNP, but it has drawbacks such as leading to faster nuclear spin relaxation, or even reaction with the substrate under investigation. The latter can be a particular problem for heterogeneous catalysts. ...Journal Article -
HEPPA-II model-measurement intercomparison project: EPP indirect effects during the dynamically perturbed NH winter 2008-2009
(2017)Atmospheric Chemistry and PhysicsWe compare simulations from three high-top (with upper lid above 120 km) and five medium-top (with upper lid around 80 km) atmospheric models with observations of odd nitrogen (NOx = NO + NO2), temperature, and carbon monoxide from seven satellite instruments (ACE-FTS on SciSat, GOMOS, MIPAS, and SCIAMACHY on Envisat, MLS on Aura, SABER on TIMED, and SMR on Odin) during the Northern Hemisphere (NH) polar winter 2008/2009. The models ...Journal Article -
Determining the directional strain shift coefficients for tensile Ge: a combined x-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy study
(2017)Measurement Science and TechnologyIn this work the calibration of the directional Raman strain shift coefficient for tensile strained Ge microstructures is reported. The strain shift coefficient is retrieved from micro-Raman spectroscopy measurements in combination with absolute strain measurements from x-ray diffraction using focused synchrotron radiation. The results are used to fit the phonon deformation potentials. A linear dependence of the phonon deformation potentials ...Journal Article -
Asymmetry in polariton dispersion as function of light and matter frequencies in the ultrastrong coupling regime
(2017)New Journal of PhysicsIn the ultrastrong light–matter coupling regime, non-perturbative effects are observed even for large detuning of the light and matter frequencies. In this regime, the rotating wave approximation breaks down and the contributions of counter-rotating and diamagnetic terms lead to significant spectral modifications. Using split ring resonators coupled to the cyclotron transition in a two dimensional electron gas, we show that the diamagnetic ...Journal Article
