The CMS trigger system
(2017)Journal of InstrumentationThis paper describes the CMS trigger system and its performance during Run 1 of the LHC. The trigger system consists of two levels designed to select events of potential physics interest from a GHz (MHz) interaction rate of proton-proton (heavy ion) collisions. The first level of the trigger is implemented in hardware, and selects events containing detector signals consistent with an electron, photon, muon, τ lepton, jet, or missing ...Journal Article -
Event generator tunes obtained from underlying event and multiparton scattering measurements
(2016)The European Physical Journal CNew sets of parameters (“tunes”) for the underlying-event (UE) modelling of the pythia8, pythia6 and herwig++ Monte Carlo event generators are constructed using different parton distribution functions. Combined fits to CMS UE proton–proton (pp) data at s√=7TeV and to UE proton–antiproton (pp¯¯¯) data from the CDF experiment at lower s√, are used to study the UE models and constrain their parameters, providing thereby improved predictions ...Journal Article -
Search for Top-Quark Partners with Charge 5/3 in the Same-Sign Dilepton Final State
(2014)Physical Review LettersA search for the production of heavy partners of the top quark with charge 5/3 is performed in events with a pair of same-sign leptons. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.5fb−1 and was collected at √s = 8 TeV by the CMS experiment. No significant excess is observed in the data above the expected background, and the existence of top-quark partners with masses below 800 GeV is excluded at a 95% confidence level, ...Journal Article
