Search for supersymmetry in final states with missing transverse energy and 0, 1, 2, or at least 3 b-quark jets in 7 TeV pp collisions using the variable alphaT
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for supersymmetry in final states with jets and missing transverse energy is performed in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s=7 TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.98 fb−1 collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. In this search, a dimensionless kinematic variable, α T, is used as the main discriminator between events with genuine and misreconstructed missing transverse energy. The search ...Journal Article -
Search for microscopic black holes in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for microscopic black holes and string balls is presented, based on a data sample of pp collisions at s√=8 TeV recorded by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 12 fb−1. No excess of events with energetic multiparticle final states, typical of black hole production or of similar new physics processes, is observed. Given the agreement of the observations with the expected ...Journal Article -
Measurement of neutral strange particle production in the underlying event in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2013)Physical Review DMeasurements are presented of the production of primary K0S and Λ particles in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV in the region transverse to the leading charged-particle jet in each event. The average multiplicity and average scalar transverse momentum sum of K0S and Λ particles measured at pseudorapidities |η|<2 rise with increasing charged-particle jet pT in the range 1–10 GeV/c and saturate in the region 10–50 GeV/c. The rise and ...Journal Article -
Search for heavy quarks decaying into a top quark and a W or Z boson using lepton + jets events in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsResults are presented from a search for the pair-production of heavy quarks, QQ¯¯¯¯, that decay exclusively into a top quark and a W or Z boson. The search is performed using a sample of proton-proton collisions at s√=7 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1, collected by the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment. The signal region is defined using a sample of events containing one electron or muon, missing transverse momentum, ...Journal Article -
Search for contact interactions using the inclusive jet pT spectrum in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2013)Physical Review DResults are reported of a search for a deviation in the jet production cross section from the prediction of perturbative quantum chromodynamics at next-to-leading order. The search is conducted using a 7 TeV proton-proton data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1, collected with the Compact Muon Solenoid detector at the Large Hadron Collider. A deviation could arise from interactions characterized by a mass scale ...Journal Article -
Search for new physics in events with same-sign dileptons and b jets in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for new physics is performed using events with isolated same-sign leptons and at least two bottom-quark jets in the final state. Results are based on a sample of proton-proton collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with the CMS detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 10.5 fb−1. No excess above the standard model background is observed. Upper limits are set on the number of events from ...Journal Article -
Search for supersymmetry in final states with a single lepton, b-quark jets, and missing transverse energy in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2013)Physical Review DA search motivated by supersymmetric models with light top squarks is presented using proton-proton collision data recorded with the CMS detector at a center-of-mass energy of √s=7 TeV during 2011, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.98 fb−1. The analysis is based on final states with a single lepton, b-quark jets, and missing transverse energy. Standard model yields are predicted from data using two different approaches. The ...Journal Article -
Search for exotic resonances decaying into WZ/ZZ in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for new exotic particles decaying to the VZ final state is performed, where V is either a W or a Z boson decaying into two overlapping jets and the Z decays into a pair of electrons, muons or neutrinos. The analysis uses a data sample of pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb−1 collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC at s√=7 TeV in 2011. No significant excess is observed in the mass distribution of the ...Journal Article -
Search in leptonic channels for heavy resonances decaying to long-lived neutral particles
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search is performed for heavy resonances decaying to two long-lived massive neutral particles, each decaying to leptons. The experimental signature is a distinctive topology consisting of a pair of oppositely charged leptons originating at a separated secondary vertex. Events were collected by the CMS detector at the LHC during pp collisions at s√=7 TeV, and selected from data samples corresponding to 4.1 (5.1) fb−1 of integrated ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the Λ0b lifetime in pp collisions at s√=7 TeV
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA measurement of the Λ0b lifetime using the decay Λ0b→J/ψΛ in protonproton collisions at s√=7 TeV is presented. The data set, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 5 fb−1, was recorded with the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider using triggers that selected dimuon events in the J/ψ mass region. The Λ0b lifetime is measured to be 1.503 ± 0.052 (stat.) ± 0.031 (syst.) ps.Journal Article
