Extraction and validation of a new set of CMS pythia8 tunes from underlying-event measurements
(2020)The European Physical Journal CNew sets of CMS underlying-event parameters (“tunes”) are presented for the pythia8 event generator. These tunes use the NNPDF3.1 parton distribution functions (PDFs) at leading (LO), next-to-leading (NLO), or next-to-next-to-leading (NNLO) orders in perturbative quantum chromodynamics, and the strong coupling evolution at LO or NLO. Measurements of charged-particle multiplicity and transverse momentum densities at various hadron collision ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the tt‾bb‾ production cross section in the all-jet final state in pp collisions at s=13 TeV
(2020)Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy PhysicsA measurement of the production cross section of top quark pairs in association with two b jets (tt‾bb‾) is presented using data collected in proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV by the CMS detector at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The cross section is measured in the all-jet decay channel of the top quark pair by selecting events containing at least eight jets, of which at least two are identified as ...Journal Article -
Observation of the B0s→X(3872)ϕ Decay
(2020)Physical Review LettersUsing a data sample of proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1 collected by the CMS experiment in 2016–2018, the B0s→X(3872)ϕ decay is observed. Decays into J/ψπ+π− and K+K− are used to reconstruct, respectively, the X(3872) and ϕ. The ratio of the product of branching fractions B[B0s→X(3872)ϕ]B[X(3872)→J/ψπ+π−] to the product B[B0s→ψ(2S)ϕ]B[ψ(2S)→J/ψπ+π−] is measured to be ...Journal Article -
W+W- boson pair production in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV
(2020)Physical Review DA measurement of the W+W− boson pair production cross section in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV is presented. The data used in this study are collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The W+W− candidate events are selected by requiring two oppositely charged leptons (electrons or muons). Two methods for reducing background contributions are employed. In the first one, ...Journal Article -
Strange hadron production in pp and pPb collisions at sNN =5.02 TeV
(2020)Physical Review CThe transverse momentum (pT) distributions of Λ, Ξ-, and ω- baryons, their antiparticles, and KS0 mesons are measured in proton-proton (pp) and proton-lead (pPb) collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV over a broad rapidity range. The data, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 40.2 nb-1 and 15.6 μb-1 for pp and pPb collisions, respectively, were collected by the CMS experiment. The nuclear modification ...Journal Article -
Search for supersymmetry in pp collisions at √s=13 TeV with 137 fb−1 in final states with a single lepton using the sum of masses of large-radius jets
(2020)Physical Review XResults are reported from a search for new physics beyond the standard model in proton-proton collisions in final states with a single lepton; multiple jets, including at least one jet tagged as originating from the hadronization of a bottom quark; and large missing transverse momentum. The search uses a sample of proton-proton collision data at √ s = 13 TeV , corresponding to 137 fb − 1 , recorded by the CMS ...Journal Article -
Search for bottom-type, vectorlike quark pair production in a fully hadronic final state in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV
(2020)Physical Review DA search is described for the production of a pair of bottom-type vectorlike quarks (VLQs), each decaying into a b or b¯ quark and either a Higgs or a Z boson, with a mass greater than 1000 GeV. The analysis is based on data from proton-proton collisions at a 13 TeV center-of-mass energy recorded at the CERN LHC, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 137 fb-1. As the predominant decay modes of the Higgs and Z bosons are to a ...Journal Article -
Measurement of CKM matrix elements in single top quark t-channel production in proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV
(2020)Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy PhysicsThe first direct, model-independent measurement is presented of the modulus of the Cabibbo–Kobayashi–Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements |η|Vtb, |η|Vtd, and |η|Vts, in final states enriched in single top quark t-channel events. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data from the LHC, collected during 2016 by the CMS experiment, at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. Processes directly ...Journal Article -
Search for a Narrow Resonance Lighter than 200 GeV Decaying to a Pair of Muons in Proton-Proton Collisions at root s=13 TeV
(2020)Physical Review LettersA search is presented for a narrow resonance decaying to a pair of oppositely charged muons using √ s=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded at the LHC. In the 45–75 and 110–200 GeV resonance mass ranges, the search is based on conventional triggering and event reconstruction techniques. In the 11.5–45 GeV mass range, the search uses data collected with dimuon triggers with low transverse momentum thresholds, recorded at high rate ...Journal Article -
Study of central exclusive π+π− production in proton-proton collisions at √s=5.02 and 13TeV
(2020)The European Physical Journal CCentral exclusive and semiexclusive production of π+π− pairs is measured with the CMS detector in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at center-of-mass energies of 5.02 and 13 TeV. The theoretical description of these nonperturbative processes, which have not yet been measured in detail at the LHC, poses a significant challenge to models. The two pions are measured and identified in the CMS silicon tracker based on specific energy loss, ...Journal Article
