Search for CP violation in tt¯ production and decay in proton-proton collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2017)Journal of High Energy PhysicsThe results of a first search for CP violation in the production and decay of top quark-antiquark (tt¯) pairs are presented. The search is based on asymmetries in T-odd, triple-product correlation observables, where T is the time-reversal operator. The analysis uses a sample of proton-proton collisions at s√=8 TeV collected by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1. Events are selected having one electron ...Journal Article -
Measurements of the differential production cross sections for a Z boson in association with jets in pp collisions at √s = 8 TeV
(2017)Journal of High Energy PhysicsCross sections for the production of a Z boson in association with jets in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=8 TeV are measured using a data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to 19.6 fb−1. Differential cross sections are presented as functions of up to three observables that describe the jet kinematics and the jet activity. Correlations between the azimuthal directions and the rapidities ...Journal Article -
Search for a heavy resonance decaying into a Z boson and a vector boson in the νν¯qq¯ final state
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search is presented for a heavy resonance decaying into either a pair of Z bosons or a Z boson and a W boson (ZZ or WZ), with a Z boson decaying into a pair of neutrinos and the other boson decaying hadronically into two collimated quarks that are reconstructed as a highly energetic large-cone jet. The search is performed using the data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC during 2016 in proton-proton collisions at a ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the W boson helicity in events with a single reconstructed top quark in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2015)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA measurement of the W boson helicity is presented, where the W boson originates from the decay of a top quark produced in pp collisions. The event selection, optimized for reconstructing a single top quark in the final state, requires exactly one isolated lepton (muon or electron) and exactly two jets, one of which is likely to originate from the hadronization of a bottom quark. The analysis is performed using data recorded at a ...Journal Article -
Search for a singly produced third-generation scalar leptoquark decaying to a τ lepton and a bottom quark in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search is presented for a singly produced third-generation scalar leptoquark decaying to a τ lepton and a bottom quark. Associated production of a leptoquark and a τ lepton is considered, leading to a final state with a bottom quark and two τ leptons. The search uses proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded with the CMS detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. Upper limits are ...Journal Article -
Correlations between jets and charged particles in PbPb and pp collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV
(2016)Journal of High Energy PhysicsThe quark-gluon plasma is studied via medium-induced changes to correlations between jets and charged particles in PbPb collisions compared to pp reference data. This analysis uses data sets from PbPb and pp collisions with integrated luminosities of 166 μb−1 and 5.3 pb−1, respectively, collected at sNN−−−√=2.76 TeV. The angular distributions of charged particles are studied as a function of relative pseudorapidity (Δη) and relative ...Journal Article -
Reconstruction and identification of τ lepton decays to hadrons and ντ at CMS
(2016)Journal of InstrumentationThis paper describes the algorithms used by the CMS experiment to reconstruct and identify τ → hadrons + ντ decays during Run 1 of the LHC. The performance of the algorithms is studied in proton-proton collisions recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1. The algorithms achieve an identification efficiency of 50–60%, with misidentification rates for quark and gluon jets, electrons, ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the inelastic proton-proton cross section at √s=13 TeV
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA measurement of the inelastic proton-proton cross section with the CMS detector at a center-of-mass energy of s√=13 TeV is presented. The analysis is based on events with energy deposits in the forward calorimeters, which cover pseudorapidities of −6.6 < η < −3.0 and +3.0 < η < +5.2. An inelastic cross section of 68.6 ± 0.5(syst) ± 1.6(lumi) mb is obtained for events with MX > 4.1 GeV and/or MY > 13 GeV, where MX and MY are the masses ...Journal Article -
Bose-Einstein correlations in pp, pPb, and PbPb collisions at √sN N = 0.9–7 TeV
(2018)Physical Review CQuantum-statistical (Bose-Einstein) two-particle correlations are measured in pp collisions at √s=0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV, as well as in pPb and peripheral PbPb collisions at nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energies of 5.02 and 2.76 TeV, respectively, using the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Separate analyses are performed for same-sign unidentified charged particles as well as for same-sign pions and kaons identified via their ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the underlying event activity in inclusive Z boson production in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsThis paper presents a measurement of the underlying event activity in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, performed using inclusive Z boson production events collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The analyzed data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 2.1 fb−1. The underlying event activity is quantified in terms of the charged particle multiplicity, as well as of the scalar sum of the charged ...Journal Article
