Measurement of the Inclusive and Differential Higgs Boson Production Cross Sections in the Decay Mode to a Pair of τ Leptons in pp Collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2022)Physical Review LettersMeasurements of the inclusive and differential fiducial cross sections of the Higgs boson are presented, using the τ lepton decay channel. The differential cross sections are measured as functions of the Higgs boson transverse momentum, jet multiplicity, and transverse momentum of the leading jet in the event, if any. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC at a center-of-mass ...Journal Article -
Inclusive nonresonant multilepton probes of new phenomena at √s =13 TeV
(2022)Physical Review DAn inclusive search for nonresonant signatures of beyond the standard model (SM) phenomena in events with three or more charged leptons, including hadronically decaying τ leptons, is presented. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016-2018. Events are categorized based on the lepton and b-tagged ...Journal Article -
Observation of the Bc+ Meson in Pb-Pb and pp Collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV and Measurement of its Nuclear Modification Factor
(2022)Physical Review LettersThe Bc+ meson is observed for the first time in heavy ion collisions. Data from the CMS detector are used to study the production of the Bc+ meson in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sNN=5.02 TeV, via the Bc+→(J/ψ→μ+μ-)μ+νμ decay. The Bc+ nuclear modification factor, derived from the Pb-Pb-to-pp ratio of production cross sections, is measured in two bins of the trimuon ...Journal Article -
Probing Charm Quark Dynamics via Multiparticle Correlations in Pb-Pb Collisions at root √sNN=5.02 TeV
(2022)Physical Review LettersMultiparticle azimuthal correlations of prompt D-0 mesons arc measured in Pb-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV. For the first time, a four-particle cumulant method is used to extract the second Fourier coefficient of the azimuthal distribution (v(2)) of D-0 mesons as a function of event centrality and the D-0 transverse momentum. The ratios of the four-particle v(2) values to previously ...Journal Article -
Fragmentation of jets containing a prompt J/ψ meson in PbPb and pp collisions at t √sNN = 5.02 TeV
(2022)Physics Letters BJets containing a prompt J/ψ meson are studied in lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-ofmass energy of 5.02 TeV, using the CMS detector at the LHC. Jets are selected to be in the transverse momentum range of 30 < pT < 40 GeV. The J/ψ yield in these jets is evaluated as a function of the jet fragmentation variable z, the ratio of the J/ψ pT to the jet pT. The nuclear modification factor, RAA, is then derived by comparing the ...Journal Article -
Measurements of the Electroweak Diboson Production Cross Sections in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s= 5.02 TeV using leptonic decays
(2021)Physical Review LettersThe first measurements of diboson production cross sections in proton-proton interactions at a center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV are reported. They are based on data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 302 pb-1. Events with two, three, or four charged light leptons (electrons or muons) in the final state are analyzed. The WW, WZ, and ZZ total cross sections are measured as σWW=37.0-5. ...Journal Article -
Search for Long-Lived Particles Decaying in the CMS End Cap Muon Detectors in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2021)Physical Review LettersA search for long-lived particles (LLPs) produced in decays of standard model (SM) Higgs bosons is presented. The data sample consists of 137fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV, recorded at the LHC in 2016–2018. A novel technique is employed to reconstruct decays of LLPs in the end cap muon detectors. The search is sensitive to a broad range of LLP decay modes and to masses as low as a few GeV. No excess of events above the ...Journal Article -
Search for direct pair production of supersymmetric partners of τ leptons in the final state with two hadronically decaying τ leptons and missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2023)Physical Review DA search for the direct production of a pair of τ sleptons, the supersymmetric partners of τ leptons, is presented. Each τ slepton is assumed to decay to a τ lepton and the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), which is assumed to be stable and to not interact in the detector, leading to an imbalance in the total reconstructed transverse momentum. The search is carried out in events identified as containing two τ leptons, each decaying ...Journal Article -
Search for a light pseudoscalar Higgs boson in the boosted μμττ final state in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2020)Journal of High Energy Physics© 2020, The Author(s). A search for a light pseudoscalar Higgs boson (a) decaying from the 125 GeV (or a heavier) scalar Higgs boson (H) is performed using the 2016 LHC proton-proton collision data at s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1, collected by the CMS experiment. The analysis considers gluon fusion and vector boson fusion production of the H, followed by the decay H → aa → μμττ, and considers pseudoscalar ...Journal Article -
Search for resonant and nonresonant new phenomena in high-mass dilepton final states at √s=13 TeV
(2021)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search is presented for physics beyond the standard model (SM) using electron or muon pairs with high invariant mass. A data set of proton-proton collisions collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC at √s=13 TeV from 2016 to 2018 corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of up to 140 fb(-1) is analyzed. No significant deviation is observed with respect to the SM background expectations. Upper limits are presented on the ratio of ...Journal Article
