First measurement of the forward rapidity gap distribution in pPb collisions at √sNN = 8.16 TeV
(2023)Physical Review DFor the first time at LHC energies, the forward rapidity gap spectra from proton-lead collisions for both proton and lead dissociation processes are presented. The analysis is performed over 10.4 units of pseudorapidity at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of √sNN = 8.16 TeV, almost 300 times higher than in previous measurements of diffractive production in proton-nucleus collisions. For lead dissociation processes, which correspond ...Journal Article -
Two-particle azimuthal correlations in γp interactions using pPb collisions at √sNN = 8.16 TeV
(2023)Physics Letters BThe first measurements of the Fourier coefficients (V_n∆) of the azimuthal distributions of charged hadrons emitted from photon-proton (γp) interactions are presented. The data are extracted from 68.8 nb⁻¹ of ultra-peripheral proton-lead (pPb) collisions at √sNN=8.16TeV using the CMS detector. The high energy lead ions produce a flux of photons that can interact with the oncoming proton. This γp system provides a set of unique initial ...Journal Article -
Measurement of differential cross sections for the production of a Z boson in association with jets in proton-proton collisions at √ s = 13 TeV
(2023)Physical Review DA measurement is presented of the production of Z bosons that decay into two electrons or muons in association with jets, in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data were recorded by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-¹. The differential cross sections are measured as a function of the transverse momentum (Pₜ) of the Z boson and the transverse momentum and rapidities ...Journal Article -
Azimuthal Correlations within Exclusive Dijets with Large Momentum Transfer in Photon-Lead Collisions
(2023)Physical Review LettersThe structure of nucleons is multidimensional and depends on the transverse momenta, spatial geometry, and polarization of the constituent partons. Such a structure can be studied using high-energy photons produced in ultraperipheral heavy-ion collisions. The first measurement of the azimuthal angular correlations of exclusively produced events with two jets in photon-lead interactions at large momentum transfer is presented, a process ...Journal Article -
Search for CP violating top quark couplings in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2023)Journal of High Energy PhysicsResults are presented from a search for CP violation in top quark pair production, using proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data used for this analysis consist of final states with two charged leptons collected by the CMS experiment, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The search uses two observables, O1 and O3, which are Lorentz scalars. The observable O1 is constructed from the ...Journal Article -
Measurements of the associated production of a W boson and a charm quark in proton–proton collisions at √s = 8 TeV
(2022)The European Physical Journal CMeasurements of the associated production of a W boson and a charm (c) quark in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8TeV are reported. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 19.7fb−1 collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. The W bosons are identified through their leptonic decays to an electron or a muon, and a neutrino. Charm quark jets are selected using distinctive signatures ...Journal Article -
Observation of B0 s mesons and measurement of the B0 s /B+ yield ratio in PbPb collisions at √snn = 5.02 TeV
(2022)Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy PhysicsThe Bs0 and B+ production yields are measured in PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02 TeV. The data sample, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 nb−1. The mesons are reconstructed in the exclusive decay channels B→s0J/ψ(μ+μ−)ϕ(K+K−) and B→+J/ψ(μ+μ−)K+, in the transverse momentum range 7–50 GeV/c and absolute rapidity 0–2.4. The Bs0 meson is observed with ...Journal Article -
Search for low-mass dilepton resonances in Higgs boson decays to four-lepton final states in proton–proton collisions at s√=13TeV
(2022)The European Physical Journal CA search for low-mass dilepton resonances in Higgs boson decays is conducted in the four-lepton final state. The decay is assumed to proceed via a pair of beyond the standard model particles, or one such particle and a Z boson. The search uses proton-proton collision data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb(-1), at a center-of-mass energy root s = 13 TeV. No significant ...Journal Article -
Using Z Boson Events to Study Parton-Medium Interactions in Pb-Pb Collisions
(2022)Physical Review LettersThe spectra measurements of charged hadrons produced in the shower of a parton originating in the same hard scattering with a leptonically decaying Z boson are reported in lead-lead nuclei (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. Both Pb-Pb and pp data sets are recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 nb^{-1} and 320 pb^{-1}, ...Journal Article -
Search for Wγ resonances in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV using hadronic decays of Lorentz-boosted W bosons
(2022)Physics Letters BA search for Wγ resonances in the mass range between 0.7 and 6.0 TeV is presented. The W boson is reconstructed via its hadronic decays, with the final-state products forming a single large-radius jet, owing to a high Lorentz boost of the W boson. The search is based on proton-proton collision data at √s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1 , collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016–2018. The Wγ mass ...Journal Article
