Multiplicity and transverse momentum dependence of two- and four-particle correlations in pPb and PbPb collisions
(2013)Physics Letters BMeasurements of two- and four-particle angular correlations for charged particles emitted in pPb collisions are presented over a wide range in pseudorapidity and full azimuth. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 31nb-1, were collected during the 2013 LHC pPb run at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV by the CMS experiment. The results are compared to 2.76 TeV semi-peripheral PbPb collision ...Journal Article -
Search for a non-standard-model Higgs boson decaying to a pair of new light bosons in four-muon final states
(2013)Physics Letters BResults are reported from a search for non-standard-model Higgs boson decays to pairs of new light bosons, each of which decays into the μ+μ- final state. The new bosons may be produced either promptly or via a decay chain. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.3 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at s=7 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011. Such Higgs boson decays are predicted in several scenarios of ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the differential dijet production cross section in proton–proton collisions at root s=7 TeV
(2011)Physics Letters BA measurement of the double-differential inclusive dijet production cross section in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV is presented as a function of the dijet invariant mass and jet rapidity. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb-1, recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. The measurement covers the dijet mass range 0.2 TeV to 3.5 TeV and jet rapidities up to |y|=2.5. It is found to be in good agreement with ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the charge ratio of atmospheric muons with the CMS detector
(2010)Physics Letters BWe present a measurement of the ratio of positive to negative muon fluxes from cosmic ray interactions in the atmosphere, using data collected by the CMS detector both at ground level and in the underground experimental cavern at the CERN LHC. Muons were detected in the momentum range from 5 GeV/c to 1 TeV/c. The surface flux ratio is measured to be 1.2766±0.0032(stat.)±0.0032(syst.), independent of the muon momentum, below 100 GeV/c. ...Journal Article -
First measurement of the cross section for top-quark pair production in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2011)Physics Letters BThe first measurement of the cross section for top-quark pair production in pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at center-of-mass energy s=7 TeV has been performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.1±0.3 pb-1 recorded by the CMS detector. This result utilizes the final state with two isolated, highly energetic charged leptons, large missing transverse energy, and two or more jets. Backgrounds from ...Journal Article -
Observation of long-range, near-side angular correlations in pPb collisions at the LHC
(2013)Physics Letters BResults on two-particle angular correlations for charged particles emitted in pPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV are presented. The analysis uses two million collisions collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The correlations are studied over a broad range of pseudorapidity, η, and full azimuth, φ, as a function of charged particle multiplicity and particle transverse momentum, pT. In high-multiplicity ...Journal Article -
Forward–backward asymmetry of Drell–Yan lepton pairs in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BA measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry (AFB) of Drell-Yan lepton pairs in pp collisions at s=7TeV is presented. The data sample, collected with the CMS detector, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5fb-1. The asymmetry is measured as a function of dilepton mass and rapidity in the dielectron and dimuon channels. Combined results from the two channels are presented, and are compared with the standard model predictions. The ...Journal Article -
Inclusive and differential measurements of the ttˉ charge asymmetry in proton–proton collisions at 7 TeV
(2012)Physics Letters BThe tt- charge asymmetry is measured in events containing a charged lepton (electron or muon) and at least four jets, one of which is identified as originating from b-quark hadronization. The analyzed dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb -1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. An inclusive and three differential measurements of the tt- charge asymmetry as a function of rapidity, transverse momentum, and invariant ...Journal Article -
Search for a new bottomonium state decaying to ϒ(1S)π+π− in pp collisions at s√ = 8 TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BThe results of a search for the bottomonium counterpart, denoted as Xb, of the exotic charmonium state X(3872) is presented. The analysis is based on a sample of pp collisions at s=8 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.7 fb-1. The search looks for the exclusive decay channel Xb→Υ{hooked}(1S)π+π- followed by Υ{hooked}(1S)→μ+μ-. No evidence for an Xb signal is observed. Upper limits ...Journal Article -
Search for the standard model Higgs boson decaying into two photons in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2012)Physics Letters BA search for a Higgs boson decaying into two photons is described. The analysis is performed using a dataset recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC from pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.8 fb−1. Limits are set on the cross section of the standard model Higgs boson decaying to two photons. The expected exclusion limit at 95% confidence level is between 1.4 and 2.4 times ...Journal Article
